I'm sure there are other ways but i'm computer illiterate this is what I do:

Start, right click over My Computer
Select Properties
Click Hardware Tab
Click Device Manager button
Click the + beside Ports in the tree
Double Click the name of the device you want to change the port for
Click the Port Settings Tab
Click the Advanced Button
Change the Port number

Not likely. XP (and likely the dog named Vista) won't assign two different devices the same port number. What should happen is anytime you plug a certain device into a certain port it will always come up as the same COM port, unless you change COM ports like Tim mentions. If you plug the same certain device into a different port it will generate a new COM port for that device, and anytime you plug that device in it will come up as that port. It's real easy for me to generate 60+ COM ports by having eight different USB-serial devices and three USB ports, since some software is only designed for COM1 or COM1-4 (1-8, 1-16, 1-32, etc) I had to clean that ---- out a while back. Now I have a certain port I plug certain cables into and haven't had to reassign anything recently.

Why don't you plug both Ostrich and datalogger in and see what COM ports are assigned?

I will, But I havent had a chance to even mess around with my new ostrich in yet. Im gona be doing a little fine tuning on a friends car on monday and I want to kinda figure it all out before I try it out and end up smashing my laptop in my driveway....lol

Im not a very computer savy person. I can surf the web, burn chips and open up te, crome, freelog, and ecucontrol....lol and thats about it. Thanks for the help guys

You have a confusing couple hours you need to spend before this stuff starts really clicking, but it isn't a whole lot harder than what you can already do. Hit us up if you run into a problem, holmes.

Re: Well how the hell do I separate my usb ports?

ok so I did some tuning today on his car. Everything was ok, but I couldnt get my ostrich 2.0 to conect to turbo edit 2.6 But I did get it to conect to turbo edit 3.1.9 Did my tuning everything was ok, untill I saved the file on my computer, went to burn it to a chip, put the chip in ant it threw a solid cel. I tried it again, same results. ???

I think it has somthing to do with te 3.1.9

So I copyed the fuel, and timing maps, and saved it to a differnt file. burned it to a chip and it was ok. ???

So now my question is how do setup my ostrich 2.0 to te 2.6? I was reading on moates and it said I had so set the baud rate to 920000. In te 2.6 the highes I can set it is 128000
when I try to conect I get

*** Looking for Ostrich..
*** Looking for Ostrich..
*** Looking for Ostrich..
*** Looking for Ostrich..
*** Looking for Ostrich..
*** Unable to locate Ostrich. Something's wrong.

Re: Well how the hell do I separate my usb ports?

You can't make a v2.0 work with TE 2.x, as you noted the baud rate isn't high enough.

What chips are you burning?

Re: Well how the hell do I separate my usb ports?

yep, im burning at 8000.

But the problem isnt in the burn. Turbo edit 3.1.9 beta I think is ------- up the file when I save it.

But what im trying to figure out is how to conect turbo edit 2.6 and ostrich 2.0

I asked moetes for firmware 10.10.0 Hopfully the can get that to me and it will solve all my problems.

Possible. Have you tried to download the .bin directly from the Ostrich with any of Mark Mansur's software? He has an Ostrich dumper somewhere on the Tunerpro site,
IIRC.

The only time I've ever used TE it was either v2.4 or v2.6, and I used my Ostrich v2.0 via TunerproRT. Give it a whirl.

Re: Well how the hell do I separate my usb ports?

Well this is the email I sent moates,

So I have a turbo edit 2.6.1 and a ostrich 2.0 and it wont conect to turbo edit.
So one of my questions is that I cant set my baud rate to 920000 like it says to in your documentation. It has 4 settings.
9600
19200
38400
128000

Now I did try a new beta version of turbo edit 3.1.9 and it worked but it crashes.
Now I was told that I need to get firmware 10.10.0 but I cant find it on your site.

And this is what they wrote back:

If you can't set your baud rate to 925000 you will need a different version of TurboEdit that allows this setting. The Ostrich2 requires this.
Firmware: http://www.moates.net/documentation....entation_id=22 (I don't think that will fix your problem)
thanks,
-Dave Blundell

So it sounds like that I cant run turbo edit 2.6.1 and the ostrich 2.0 :X
Well that ------- sucks

Re: Well how the hell do I separate my usb ports?

1 Attachment(s)
Download TunerPro, use it to control the Ostrich. You'll get to save the .bin in TE, open and upload with TunerPro, but it's still a LOT faster than burning chips.

Here's a TunerPro definition I came up with, it supports nothing except loading a .bin and flashing it to an Ostrich, literally did it on the side of the road in three minutes. Remove the .txt from the end of the file before usage. :)

Well thanks for you help JD, im gona give it a shot here in a few weeks. He will be back in town than and I can maybe try some more tuning then. Bu im just kinda bumbed that I cant use my ostrich like it was ment to be used. :-\ O well. But all I realy need to tune now is his crazy idle. But I told him to come back when ALL OF THE PROBLEMS WERE FIXED......lol

so you could connect then when you saved the file it corrupted it and you couldnt connect to the ostrich again? as far as the error...it sends a command to the ostrich and if it doesnt see anything back after 10 tries you will get the something is wrong error.

if you have trouble with the tunerpro stuff, i would try 3.1.7 or 3.1.8 to see if you can connect with those....a rough first try at downloading the rom off the ostrich was added to 3.1.9 and something could have been messed up. i used 3.1.9 for a few months before i stored the car for the winter and never had a problem. this was all while logging my lc1/tc4 into ecucontrol through one usb port, logging everything else with ecucontrol in another usb port and making changes on the ostrich with another usb port all at the same time.

i have heard of one other person having trouble connecting using TE, but they can connect using BRE...but it takes 45-60 seconds to connect. TE will time out well before that...

Check this link for the lastest version of TE.

http://forum.pgmfi.org/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=15233

If you want to stay with TE 2.6, I made a fix for 920000baud in 2007

http://forum.pgmfi.org/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=14452

I didnt test with Ostrish 2 tho. Its hard to test it since I don't have it :P

I asked if he had set his icv and he said "we did a little" WTF did you or didnt you adjust it....lol It was also throwing a code 10 and a cod 6, and this was a obd0 pr4

2.6.1 doesn't work. Well maybe it does, but I tried everything. Actually started a post here about a year ago. Someone told me he could only get 2.5.5 to work. Tried it worked first try.

you have to use 2.5.5 or 3.1+ . Regardless it works perfect on the newest ver. 3.1.9

do you use an ostrich2...if so what baud rate do you use (128000 or 920000)?

yes, ostrich 2.

I'm pretty sure I used every combination trying to get it to work one day.
