all you'll gain is a 6800 revlimiter instead of 6500, and no speedlimiter.

You'll get the CEL codes, but they have no effect.

I did this 6+ years ago, and running the same thing now that my D15Beast7 is back in.

There are many burners that will fill your needs. The two that seem to work the best and are within a decent price range are the willem and the Moates.

Cost:
The moates "Burn1" is $85 on moates.net
Willem is about $50 on eBay.

Compatibility:
They both work with the major chips you will need. The willem does more chips, but you will never use them for automotive stuff.

Connections:
The willem needs a serial cable and a USB cable (for power)
The moates take only one USB for everything (very nice)

Software:
The willem comes with software that is a little more confusing because it is made to work with hundreds of chips.
The moates software is simple because it is made with TurboEdit/Uberdata guys in mind.

Overall I would go with the Moates. I have owned both, and I just like the ease and tangle free operation of the moates.

If all you want is cheap, then use the willem

BTW: kev just did a big write-up on teh willem operation
