Can I just get a WB Controller?

Right now I have the Bosch LSU4 Wideband sensor. Long story short when the tuner was tuning my brother's car it stripped on the threads a little and I ended up buying it from him for compensation.

Well I was wondering if PLX or anyother controllers come with the option of getting everything but the sensor itself.

I will probably just email some of the manufacturers but, I was wondering if anyone has experience with this and how much discount of the regular price would you guys think it would be.

Thanks

Kurt

Bosch sensors are ~$30 brand new. I hope you didnt compensate him too much.

And I hope its out of the stripped hole...and not still in your exhaust.

it's first come first serve, I may have a buyer already. If I don't I'll post in the classifieds.

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

Well I guess I got ripped, I never knew you could get them for $30. I've never seen them for that cheap. Not the wideband sensors anyways. The one I have says LSU 4 and has a 6-wire harness but only 5 wires.

Ya it's not on a car now, I just have it sitting in my drawer waiting for a controller to install it with.

Another quick question, I know it's harmful to leave the sensor in the exhaust with out a controller, but is it okay to run it all the time if you do have one. I plan on installing the WB sensor and controller, then just leave it installed so I can watch my A/F all the time.

Thanks for the replys
Kurt

You shouldn't leave it in all the time. Ho much did you compensate him for anyway?

Mine has been installed almost a year. The bosch sensor is stock on any of the turbo VWs for 02-03...why would he NOT be able to leave it in?

I say leave it in ALWAYS...at $30 a pop, they are easy to replace.

Looks like they have gone up a touch in the past year.

I can still get them from a local source cheaper (~$28) :)

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

Well honestly I paid him a $100 for the sensor. It was a heat of the moment kind of thing. We messed it up on my brothers downpipe bung which the threads were messed up somehow before.
I asked him if I could just buy it from him since it was still usable(only messed up a few threads) and he asked for 100 bucks, so I just gave it to him because I had it at the time and thought it was a fair deal.
I see that they are cheap on this site. But say I went to an Autozone or something and ordered it from there, are they still that cheap? I mean if neither one of us knew they could be had for that cheap, then I won't feel so bad :-[. But oh well you live and learn. Now I know where to get them from!

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

I'd call him up and tell him to go ---- himself and ask for money back. Im pretty sure these cant be had at any local autozone.

You can get them from a VW dealer for like $60 so this 'tuner' should at least know that.

Who is this punk bitch so people from here know to stay away?

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

Haha!!! Sounds like you guys are getting worked up more than me over this. Well I'd rather not say who, because I know he is a great TUNER and will probably use him again. Let's just say he is known as one of the top tuners in Texas and probably in the world for hondas and other sport compacts(one of the most famous also).

I guess just because he is one of the best tuners doesn't mean he won't rip ya off on something like this. But I know not to buy ANYTHING but his tuning time now. Can't put a price on talent ya know.

Well thanks for letting me know about this stuff xenocron, it's people like you that keep this hobby cheap by letting others know. I really appreciate it.

Thanks again,
Kurt

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

Well...you cant put a price on integrity and its a sad day when a popular tuner needs to scam someone for $40 these days.

Do I hear an echo?

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

Are these the exact same Bosch sensor as the LSU4? Also do they come with a connector or do you have to splice them in?
Just trying to justify the price because this tuner really seemed like a good guy, maybe my sensor is a little different? Does bosch make different grades of WB sensors?

Chris Harris 12-14-2004 09:12 PM

Re:Can I just get a WB Controller?

it comes with the standard VW connector right on it...these are not a universal type O2.

most if not all of the more affordable WB manufactures use the stock VW connector to make sensors easily replaceable
