Is this ecu trying to be run stock? just cut the jumper at location J1 on the ecu and that will return the ecu back to stock form. I wouldn't try and run the chip that was in the ecu unless you know what was programmed onto it.

You need to take the chip out too. Projekteg says that the ecu wont run right unless you remove the chip as well.

Even though J1 is cut ??? How does that make sense? by cutting J1 your eliminating that part of the circut.

I assume that J1 isnt the only connection from the processor to the external rom...J1 just tells the processor to read from the rom. If there is no chip there, the signals that get sent to that area go no where and the processor doesnt care. If there is a chip there, the signals get blocked or changed and possibly sent back to the processor which confuses it and the ecu goes limp.

this is all just a guess really....

Re: Cali p28

just desolder the chip or cut the legs and heat up the solder while pulling them out then desolder the board there. solder in zif and viola.

Yes, stock OBD1 ECUs can be external EEPROM from the factory. They do this for California's emissions.

It's all good. All of the work has already been done for you. Don't cut J1. Just desolder the EEPROM (28 pin), put a socket in, then put in your Uberdata chip. That is all you have to do.

Leave J1.. Desolder 28 pin EEPROM.. solder in socket.. Insert Uberdata chip.
