I'm trying to make a basemap for my motor but i dont really understand the ignition timing for the dual map bins on TE2, i understand that you should retard the ignition under boost conditions, but, where should i start and how do i figure out what goes where. Does the new pgmfi_stablebin have 0.7 deg retard per psi?

any info would be great thanks

To be safe, lots of people start with 1 degree retard per psi (on stock base timing) I honestly think its a bit to conservitive, and generally go .5-.8 ish

The PGMFI 1.0 Stable ROM uses a "step" retard that Dave did. It's a compounding retard as boost increases instead of a linear retard of the "per psi of boost".

Jeff is right, of course, that 1.0 is a lot, but safe. Then build fomr there. TurboEDIT has a boost retard function. Tools -> Boost Retard. You type in your degree of retard, and click OK, TE will retard the map for you.

I wouldn't do this to the tune that comes in the stable ROM, as I said, it's already retarded. Create your own tune, and use the linear retard for now. I'll include a step reatrd soon.

I'm still not sure about a few things, i've spent hours trying to make sense of the maps, its even harder to try and explain my problems so here goes.......

I'm opening the try 21.bin and looking at the ignition table on it and at 1.7psi @ 1100rpm the ignition value is 4.68 but when i open the tables for a PM7euro zc the value at 1.3psi is 1.8, and so that makes me think if I am meant to retard the igntion by say 1 degree per psi then at 3.3 it should be -0.8 . So I then refer back to the try21 tables and look at the nearest value to 3.3psi (which is 3.2) and the value is 3.96.

So at this point I'm beginning to lose the will to live.

If all that isnt bad enough I then think ---- it I'll leave the ignition tables as they are and move on to the fuel tables because I think they are too rich for a 1.6 DOHC ZC. I scale them down a bit (about 12% so it is a little bit richer than the Ghetto boost ROM tables) just to see if my car will run in boost with it but no thats not happening, so, at the moment I'm running my car with the Ghetto Rom which isn't bad, but, I really want to use TE2 because Ghd just isnt smooth enough on vacuum and when it goes into boost (although I'm now starting to think that this could be MAP sensor issues not sure though)

I'm not asking someone to do this for me cos i'm enjoying it even if it is a bit frustrating but a little advice or a nudge in the right direction would be real helpful.

The problem you're having is that the ROMs you're working with have already been tuned.

The old GhD boost ROM was retarded by hand with a linear boost retard per psi by Joseph Davis.

The new TE2.0 ROMs have a base tune that was retarded via a non-linear, but more power giving, step retard by Dave Blundell.

You're just going to confuse yourself trying to think these maps were tuned the same. They're not. Your best bet would be to create boost maps based on an import of your motors stock maps. Otherwise, you're going to have to "untune" the original maps, then retune them for your car, if you're trying to make sense of the retards.

Bottom line, just import your maps, and create boost tunes from there. It'll save you a lot of headache in the long run.

Ok so i tried to import some maps and i get

run-time error '-2147024882(800700e)':

out of memory

I'm guessing I have to find some other maps that are going to be compatable with TE2 instead of the 1.29 maps?

my mistake it already is compatable, should i stick the values in to an excel graph and read off the corresponding vac figures and manually put them into the vac side of the stable bin and then copy them into the boost side and modify?

so i can now import the maps without a problem, can you give a little advice on how to adjust the figures,

I'm thinking that for the vac side i just scale the fuel down by 43% and leave the ignition timing as it is.... is this right?

how do i know what figures to put into the boost maps?

I'm not expecting to be spoon fed the answers just pointing in the right direction as the more i look at it the more confused i become
