the bitch lives

it's spring break for me so I've been working on my car lately. I finally got everything put together and got her to turn over, it starts, but runs like ballsack. I have codes 4 and 7, crank position sensor and throttle position sensor, she doesn't know what position she's in. for those who don't know it's an 88 civic dx with the stock d15b2 bomber back in. I'll be trouble shooting this evening and will provide updates when I figure ---- out. I'll get some pix and vidz up once I get it running right. any suggestions or insights would be nice.

God you have the worst luck with cars.

Re: the bitch lives

make sure you got the pins flipped apropriatly.

idk if you just switched to mpfi, or back to dpfi, but remember the TPS needs inverted for MPFI, and you may have accidentally mixed up the CKP wires repinneng the dizzy plug.

Re: the bitch lives

I switched from mpfi back to dpfi, but the only wiring I had to switch was at the ecu because I got a stock dpfi wiring harness from a 90 dx hatch. I'm about to go out and start checking pins right now.

update, the wiring at the ecu checks out according to the manual, which sucks because now I have to look for something else that's wrong, ----.

CPS is in the dizzy, I got one DPFI style when my dizzy got fucked, needed to replace it.

TPS, swap it with a known good one?

Re: the bitch lives

this whole setup ran perfect before I pulled it out and put in the b16, so I don't think any of the sensors got fucked up, I'm thinking the wire harness might be fucked, does anybody know if there's a difference between the 88 dx harness and the 90 dx harness?

Guy-Fast 03-25-2006 01:23 PM

Re: the bitch lives

there sure is

you need an 88

90 only works in 90 91

Honda16hb 03-25-2006 01:48 PM

Re: the bitch lives

what are the differences? I'm only getting 2 codes, so they can't be all that much different.

Re: the bitch lives

All I know is whenever I mixed harness's on ef's I got codes and went and got the correct year. Never was to intrested but if you could score the one for your car your set.

true story. i tried to use a 88 rear harness in my 90 crx all the plugs were different. but i tried to make it work and weird ---- started to happen ??? suggestion: find 88-89 civic harness. for a civic not crx.

Re: the bitch lives

I'm working on converting my original 88 dx harness from a modified mpfi harness back into a dpfi harness, I'll let you know how that goes.

update, I got the original harness switched back to dpfi and I still had the same problems I was having before, a total of 5 codes by the time I got to putting the old harness back in: 4 ckp (crank position) sensor, 6 ect (engine coolant temp) sensor, 7 tps, 10 iat (intake air temp), and 13 baro (atmospheric pressure) sensor.

I switched out my 88 pm5 for the one I took out of the 90 and it only gives me codes 4 and 10. it's dark here now so I'm probably done ------- with it for the evening, any input would be appreciated.

code 10 try switching the iacv and iat plugs with each other

Honda16hb 03-26-2006 01:35 AM

Re: the bitch lives

I switched the iat and iacv plugs, they were wrong, but I still get the code 10, we'll see what it says tomorrow.

leed 03-26-2006 10:53 PM

Re: the bitch lives

After running it switched like that, does the IAT look 'funny', or melted? Ive seen this happen twice. IAT fails outright, and perm. code 10. You have access to another IAT sensor to test with?

Honda16hb 03-26-2006 11:08 PM

Re: the bitch lives

I have a complete intake mani laying around, I'll look at the iat on my car now and see if I need to replace it because code 10 is still there, but I haven't checked with the ecu reset yet.

well reset the ecu foooooooooollllllllll

Honda16hb 03-27-2006 04:53 PM

Re: the bitch lives

I reset it last night, but I couldn't start the car to check the codes because I have no exhaust and my neighbors probably wouldn't really like to hear my car at 11 when they're trying to sleep. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get home from work today.

update:
just started her up and I'm down to codes 4 and 7, still the crank position sensor, and now the tps is back. I checked the voltage from the center pin on the tps with the key on and I get .6 when it's closed and 4.6 when it's all the way open, that should be good, I don't know why I'm getting that code. unfortunately no time to get that other distributor today to see if that will fix the code 4, hopefully tomorrow.

Sup bitch, Nice to see your finally working on your ride again. Call me if you need some help man. Not sure if you got my new cell? Never see you at TKE anymore, whats up?

Honda16hb 03-30-2006 03:06 AM

Re: the bitch lives

I thought you moved because I never see your car at your house anymore, I'm at tke every weekend. I'm having a ---- of a time getting the top bolt on the distributor off, I already stripped it to ---- so I'm probably just going to weld a screw driver to it and take it off that way. pm me your number in case I don't have it. I picked up a blown d block, so if you break any ---- on yours let me know, I have most of the ---- from the block, whenever I have time I'm going to tear it down and see if the crank is still good because it threw a rod.

ya, the harness is back to original, I tried switching the outer 2 in case I switched them again somewhere else and it gave me more problems.

right now I'm trying to try out a different distributor, but I can't get 1 of the bolts off of the damn thing, I'll update when I know anything else.

Honda16hb 05-09-2006 08:12 PM

Re: the bitch lives

update on the bitch:
when I got home today I had this itch to work on my car. so I get out into the garage and start grinding away on a bolt that wouldn't get off my distributor's balls to save its life. I finally get that bolt off, put on a different distributor I took off my parts car, and start the bitch up. She purred like a ------- kitten, I was so happy, revved all the way up to redline instead of the horseshit 3k or so I was getting with the other distributor. All was well, I move her out of the driveway and I start going forward, cel pops on, ---- acceleration, I get to the end of the street and turn around. I'm still fucked.

the short story:
cleared all cels but 7, will update if I find out anything else

Re: the bitch lives

---- and a half, if you're right I might as well kill myself, the tps on the dpfi is harder than hell to replace.
