best place to install EGT probe

should i put it in the manifold itself or in the stock DSM o2 housing?

i could eb wrong, but i beleave i read that they should be as close to the O2 sensor as they can be.

3rd runner on the manifold.

I'll second the 3rd runner.

If you get a dual EGT gauge, you can always stick a second one in the collector right before the turbo to compare hottest and average EGT. If you stick it after the turbo in the downpipe, you read a max of around 800 degrees F when in boost... pressure-enthalpy conversion leeches a lot of the heat/energy out of the exhaust gas.

3rd runner is best.

Mine is after the turbo on the downpipe and it reads allot colder than one on the runner. I am usually at about 900 cruising. I have hit 1300 before. :o

mine was intall in the o2 sensor hole on the std manifold. And i read 1450,1500
F at 60mph. So it hot. Do you think it will be better on the 3 runner??

Re:best place to install EGT probe

i put mines on the #1 cylinder runner is this not good?

Re:best place to install EGT probe

On Honda motors it is better to have them on the #3 cylinder. The #3 cylinder has been known to be the first one to go out because of high heat levels. This would make the #3 the ideal position to place the probe since you could see what the hottest part of the motor is. The #1 runner would be fine, but it is not the best spot. I don't think it would be anything to worry about.

Re:best place to install EGT probe

ok some person told me to put the EGT after the turbo when we are FI and in the manifold when we are N/A.

Re:best place to install EGT probe

you can but your temps will be cooler, wouldn't you rather know your hottest temp? i think that is safer, you can also put it 1 inch from your muffler if you want ::)

Re:best place to install EGT probe

ohhhhhhhh i see ::)

it's because i put 3 inch of the head and doesn't gave a good temp(about 1450 to 1500 at 3500 4000 rpm) so i think it will be hottest to put it 1 inch of the head.

3rd runner, 1/2 the diameter of the runner from the flange, or .75".

Re:best place to install EGT probe

ok and what about a o2 sensor for a wideBand???

Where do you put it?? before or after the turbo??

If after, how far??

Wideband Sensor Positioning
The wideband sensor must be carefully placed in order to prevent damage to the sensor itself and to maximise accuracy. Also, if you use the sensor's output directly (via the simulated narrowband output) to drive your ECU then you should be doubly careful. Please follow all of these "rules" :

The sensor should always be placed on the engine side of a catalytic converter, unless you are testing the effectiveness of the convertor itself.
The gas temperature to the sensor should never exceed 850 degrees C (about 1560 degrees Fahrenheit).
The sensor should never be run without power to the WB unit (a hot sensor burns off carbon residues)
Always have the long axis of the sensor perpendicular to the gas flow (stops sensor clogging)
Position the sensor vertically or at most between 10 o'clock to the 2 o'clock position (this avoids cracking the internal ceramic structure should moisture condense internally)
We don't recommend using a short sections of exhaust pipe shoved up your tailpipe. A specially welded additional bung is the best mounting strategy.
The sensor reads the partial pressure of gases in the exhaust and infers the AFR, rather than by measuring some magical AFR directly. This may be an issue on forced induction, and in particular, on turbo-charged engines.

AFRs will indicate richer than they are, causing you to run leaner than you think.
Lean AFR's will be richer (or less lean) than indicted.
A solution is to ensure you locate your sensor away from the turbo, and certainly on the exhaust (low pressure) side of the turbo rather than the engine side.
so basically on your downpipe somewhere and before your cat if you have one.
