b16a turbo ??? Please Help

ok i know the basics "i think" about turbo. i have a b16a1 in a 90 teg and i plan on just runing 9psi on it stock bottom end and all. but i know it can be done with right management.. i know i need (fmu,410injectors?) but i am not sure if i will also need a good fuel pump. so basically what all will i need to be safe runin 9psi? any reply's will be greatly appreciated. ;)

The injectors will not work by themselves. You will need something to control them. You might be able to get away with just the FMU and a pump, but that is ghetto. :-\

ok, so basically if i have bigger injecters/better ones than stock and a lets say a votech fmu and a fuel pump i should be safe running 9psi with a t3 as a daily driver?

No. Bigger injectors will not work. I think the max you can run without something to control them is about 310cc-370cc. If you just use the FMU and the pump you should be ok. This isn't the best/safest way to supply fuel, but it will work.

ok thank you. i have one more question. should i get a turbo timer and set that up because i heard someone say it is not good to just turn your car right off after driving it. you should let it idle for a bit then turn it off??

i forgot to mention somthing. DR.Boost i was wondering about the stock ecu at 9 psi it wont be able to handle it.? i was reading one of your posts and it said somting about the "AFC Hack" simple and easy. now. i think i ahve this down from reading stuff. correct me if i am wrong if i get
(AFC Hack,410cc injectors,fmu,fuel pump)
i should be safe at pushing 9 to 10psi as a daily driver right.?

I'm not DrBoost, obviously, but I'll give you some information regarding your questions..

should i get a turbo timer and set that up because i heard someone say it is not good to just turn your car right off after driving it. you should let it idle for a bit then turn it off??

The debate that circles the use of turbo timers comes and goes. Personally, I don't use one. Why? I have a water and oil cooled turbo. When the engine is shut off, yes, you loose the oil pressure that cools the breaings, but, the heat in the coolant system keeps the coolant flowing. So, yes, you don't get oil taking the heat away from the bearing, but you do get the coolant.
Others think that a turbo timer is a must no matter what. Look at it this way, production cars with turbos don't come with timers. But, on the flip side of that, if you're been running it hard, boosting a lot during that drive, go ahead and give it a minute to cool. Regular driving no problem, boosting hard, let it cool a minute then turn off the key.

Now, as far as the FMU @ 9psi. Your ECU won't like that. End of Story. Your MAP sensor will throw a CEL at anything above 3.0 volts. Which is, from what I have read, ~4 - 5psi. Coincidenatlly, that is also the recommended max for the use of an FMU. Fuel pressures would SKYROCKET if you boosted 9psi with an FMU.

Your best bet is to use a hardware MAP scaling device or ROM with MAP controlling features written into it, (I.E. Hondata, Zdyne, AEM's EMS, or Mr. Turbo). With this, you'll be able to run up to ~10psi without moving to a 2 bar map sensor.

if he uses an fmu he would need a missing link which takes care of the cel problem...and when you use the afc b16als, you dont need an fmu too, although you could use one with a low ratio disc in it

i can't thank you guys enough. :-* lol. i do appreciate it i just want to run safe i just got another motor so this is my 2nd well third if i include stock. so i am kinda tired of spending cash on motors ;) .. so i am trying to find the cheapest but safe way of doing this turbo just like everyone else but i also know to do somthing right you have to spend money :-\ but if it keeps me safe i dont care.so bottom line is in order to do it righ. i need somthing like hondata, and i was wondering what really is a afc hack? and will it be bettre to run somthing like hondata and just spend the cash on it and get some bigger injectors and leave out the fmu?
like i said i thank you all very much.

As far as the AFC hack goes, it's a hardware device that scales your MAP sensor signal so your ECU doesn't see the higher voltage, which would indicate higher than normal pressures in the manifold. I use this method to control boost. Personally, I have the A'pexI V-AFC, and a set of 450 DSM injectors. The V-AFC scales MAP down, which would lean out stock injectors. That is where the 450cc injectors come in. Because at the same duration of pulse, 450cc injectors will, obviously, flow more. Thus being able to compensate for the scale MAP (the leaning). This method is good for up to 12psi, though, your stock MAP sensor can really only handle ~10psi.

As far as Hondata being better? Maybe. Depends on your setup. Hondata will require a lot of extra money to get the almost the same result, but higher tunability and support. Again, depending on your setup it might be easier, and more financially sound to do an AFC setup, 450cc injectors, and use the Ghettodyne (http://www.Ghettodyne.com) tuning software.
