Anyone use boost retard chip and AFC Hack?

My turbo project is going to be running this week, I'm trying to decided if I should chip my ECU or not. I have a chip coming in from a guy on PGFMI.com that is for the PR3 that retards the timing 1 degree for every 1 pound of boost. Will this resolve the common issues with VAFC Hack timing?

Good question I was wondering the same thing.

That would be the same thing as using a BTM. It will help while you are in boost, but at low throttle and take offs it will be the same. You would still need to retard the initial timing.

Yes it should correct the advanced timing with the AFC hack, and retard under boost. Dr. Boost is right though, you may need to retard base timing at the distributer a bit more. I will be running the same setup with my uberchip and AFC.

I was using an AFC with Uberdata and the timing was quite a bit better, but it still needed some work. Good luck tuning the Uberteg chip with the AFC. Mine responded pourly to any corrections with the AFC. I had the low throttle cranked down to -50 and it was still rich. :o As long as you get a really good program for the chip it should be good.

This is just a stock chip with no fuel changes just timing changes.

Why would I need to retard base timing, and how much if I run 9PSI?

Re:Anyone use boost retard chip and AFC Hack?

As you already know, the AFC advances the ---- out of your timing all the way across the table. The chip will only retard timing when you are boosting so while you are cruising and not boosting your timing will still be all jacked up.

I have my distibutor almost all the way retarded. I just basicaly placed it where it worked the best(no timing light). I lost a bit of power, but it's better than listening to all that pinging and possibly blowing my motor.

Okay I understand what your saying, but if using a BTM is the same as chipping the ECU for retard why does "Joseph Davis" always say it's a better idea to chip? Just cause it's cheaper? Or does it actually work a little better? Easier to tune?

Re:Anyone use boost retard chip and AFC Hack?

You can use the fuel tables as well. beta14 was talking about just using the ignition tables. I didn't even know this was possible. If you use the entire capability of the chip you can tune your car perfectly with a wideband. You also don't have the extreme timing advance associated with the AFC. The chip also allows you to set a certain retard at several different rpm/boost settings.
