Any recomendations for timing.

Ok got my first Turbo an IHI RFB5
The application is an old 1.3 Ltr Suzuki Swift. Carbed.

I see a lot of good info for modern cars where its as simple as going out with a shoping cart and picking up stuff.

Ive read the FAQ most of the post on this forum. Most of the other site. THere is a shortage of good info for carbed motors. So please see if you can help with this project without calling me gay. Or snide remarks.

1. Installing the trubo.
This is the easy bit. Ill manage the plumbing and sand cast the bits I need.

2. Ignition.
The present system uses a vacum advance. I set it at 8 Degrees and as the RPM climbs the timing keeps advancing towards 30-35 Degrees. This wont do.
The plan is to develop a multi spark CDI system with which I can control the timing. Can you recomend a timing curve to use. My system allows you to enter RPM vs Degrees advance retard. I will drop the dirtributor and run a HT coil for each cylinder. All I need here is a base line curve to start with.

3. The Carb / Fuel.
This is a bit of a blank spot. Any advise would do. I do have a DIY Wide Band O2 sensor and a Digital EGT gauge to help. Right now the plan is just to hook up the output from the turbo to the input of the carb. Even if I can get 5PSI Id be happy with the gains.

Only constructive positive comments please.

2. So you have a points + vac advance distributor eh? That is going to be REALLY tough to work with. You might want to try setting the distributor to the max advance you want to run under boost (I suggest about 18 degrees to be safe) and then putting a check valve in between the intake manifold and the vacuum advance line, with the check valve pointing to BLOCK pressure from the manifold heading to the distributor. Hopefully, what this will do is to lock you in at 18 degrees while in boost by preventing boost from reaching the distributor. Hopefully, it will also let vacuum advance the distributor for normal running operation.

3. What kind of carbs do you have? From what I understand, most carbs are not very friendly to turbos, period - they rely on vacuum to work. I think blow-through are the only turbo-friendly type, but don't quote me on this since I'm definately a EFI child.

No points. Its an electronic ignition. With a distributor.
But the plan is to loose the complete vacum adcance and just have it controled by the CPU in the CDI box.

I can post a pic of the carb if it will help.
I know carbs dont like boost. Buy Im not looking for any big gains. If I can take it up by another 20-30 BHP Id be more than happy.
Im looking for 100 BHP from a 1.3Ltr engine.

One other option would be to get a 16 Valve head with a fuel injection rail from the next modell. And bolt that on.

May I suggest dumping the whole carb thing, and going with MegaSquirt'N'Spark or MegaSquirt'N'EDIS?

thats the best idea and then turbo that as it has a very turbo friendly designed head
