Okay...I got it to finally erase everything from the chip and verify that it was blank. However now...I can't fully burn my basemap on to my chip. It gets up to 100% and then says "Error at 0x000000 Chip=0x7E" anyone got any I idea wat this is? What I did to get it to erase was switch the jumper on JP-2 and it worked, no message just erased the whole thing.

It sounds like you've just got a faulty chip, I would pick up another just to double check the source of the problem. Lotta headaches for a two dollar part

I had an SST that I couldn't erase and burn with my Burn1. Then I tried an Atmel and it worked perfectly just by changing the chip selection setting in the program, so yeah I hate SST.

SST chips are far superior to the Amtel and they are still making them and they are loads cheaper and burn faster...

That being said...I imagine that trying to burn a chip over and over incorrectly to start may or may not leave the chip dead...I dont know. I have burned thousands of chips myself with three different types of burners and have never had one come up faulty.

If anyone wants to send their chip(s) that they think may be faulty I have no problem testing them out for free. I dont even care if you bought the chips from me. Just make sure to include a note and enough $$$ for return shipping.

I killed the SST27sf512 that came with my Willem with multiple failed attempts at erasing/burning it.

Picked up 2 new chips and followed these instructions exactly:

Hook up the parellel cable to the LPT port 1st
Hook up the USB cable for power second
Open the Willem software, 097ja
Make sure it says PCB3 at the top middle
Click HELP-->Test Hardware (should say present)
Set the jumpers like my picture to erase
Put the SST in the ZIF socket correctly
Choose the SST chip in the software
Click the Erase button (should confirm erase with some other windows in the)
Then, load the BIN you want to burn and set the jumpers for burning like my pics
Set offset to 8000
Then click the burn button and done

The erase/burn jumper settings are pictured here -> https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=40528.0

The new chips work everytime so far, but the original chip gets me a solid CEL.

hm....i did exactly like all you guys suggested, even using Xenocron's steps....and still no success. I tried at a local radio shack to see if they had any....but the guys there had no freaking idea what I wanted. I told them EPROMs and they pointed to the ZIFs.....I told them it was the chip that supposedly sits on top of the ZIF. Damn Vietnamese people...can't understand squat. I tried looking too but seems like they didn't carry any...where are you guys finding these locally? or do you guys have to order it off the net?

i just got my order from xenocron in. i have never messed with a chip burner and i got one to burn the first try and even erased it and reburned it a few times just to make sure i got the hang of it. this is so easy. i don't even know what the hell the program is talking about half the time i just know the burn and erase jumper settings and that is about it.lol
