afc hack vs. turboedit

here's the problem. i need management and i have it down to these two. at a shop they quoted me $350 to install and dyno tune the afc. i dont have the afc yet so that would be an extra $300 or so.

second option is to have the ecu chipped by XENOCRON but there would be no dyno tuning involved. would having him chip my ecu make me dependent on him all the time since i have no clue how to chip ecu's?

just looking for some suggestions. thanks.

Re:afc hack vs. turboedit

You're going to tune it with the AFC, but not with TurboEdit? Why is that? Does the shop know how to tune with TurboEdit?

You really can't compare TurboEdit to a "hack".

You should start reading up on TurboEdit and learn how to use it. If you are computer literate you should be able to figure it out. I'm not computer friendly, but I'm on my way. It shouldn't be any longer than a few more years and I'll have it figured out. :-[

You can have Xenocron chip your ECU and burn you a basemap so you can go to the dyno and see what needs to be changed. It might be a bitch wihtout knowing how to tune with TurboEdit, but I'm sure you can find someone to help you.

the shop doesnt know anything about turboedit. they were just going to dyno tune the afc and thats it. i realize turboedit is probably more accurate but how will a wideband tune using turboedit compare to a dyno tune using the afc?

Re:afc hack vs. turboedit

The turboedit tuned will be light years ahead of the afc. The tune would be based from your stock ecu. The afc hack manipulates ---- to run the car (timing, ect.). If your planning on spending $600 or so to have an afc dyno tuned, offer half of that to xenocron and I'm sure he can get you going on the TE. He is the lead support rep, so I'd even take one of his basemaps vs. the tuned afc. You'd just be setting yourself up alot better this way. With launch control too. ;)

I dont want to sound like an ass, but your stupid if you use a hack over a stand alone option, especially looking at it from the $$$ side of things.

thanks for the help guys. i already got in touch with xenocron and i just have to get the o2 sensor bung welded and im off to get it tuned at his house. now that i think about it $600 for a piggyback system is kinda dumb. money saved could be used for other crap.

something about dyno sheet numbers just amused me though. oh well gotta grow out of the newbie stage sometime.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.

One thing that I like to do that most "tuners" wouldnt (not that I'm a real tuner by any stretch) is that I will teach you how to use TurboEdit while we are tuning and then afterwards to make sure you understand what you need to do if you ever have to play with the maps yourself.

This is the benefit I like to bring to the table.

Honestly, I hate chipping ECUs...it's just part of the process. The real enjoyment is in the tuning and the teaching.

TURBOEDIT ;)

All the thanks really need to go to Jason Parker and Dave Blundell (PGMFI) and the rest of the PGMFI coders...none of this would be possible without them!
