90 hatch, dpfi, solid cel, details inside

i have a 90 hatch with dpfi

the fuel pump is hot wired to a switch, the cel comes on right when i turn the key (power on before the starter switch)

i tried to bump start it by towing it for 2 blocks in first gear but it just wouldnt go on its own.

my buddies 91 dpfi hatch was there so i swapped ecu's to check it and his lit up with a solid cel in my car, but both ecu's worked fine on his car.

any ideas would help me greatly. thanks guys.

Weird...both ECUs light up solid in your car but are fine in his.

I'm not sure what to tell you... :-\

ok, i fixed the solid cel. the negative battery terminal was missing the smaller chassis ground. i ghetto'd one up real fast and no more solid cel. no codes at all, but my ---- still wont start. gonna try towing it in first again

who ever had the car before me pretended to be a wireing master. already had the dash pulled so i pulled the heater core all air ducts and sound deadening material i found like 3 wires worn and just twisted together. i soldered them all up and i resoldered everything in 3 of the main relays that i have. im still stranded... ill keep y'all updated though

good luck with it colton, sounds like what mine was kind of doing when i was telling u about it, first thing i did check for fuel, spark, compression if those are all good then its basic guess and check til you get it right, so let me get this right bro when u have the fuel pump on its throughs a solid cel when its off it wont right?

with the ignition on:

fuel pump on = no cel

fuel pump off = solid cel

Check and make sure all of your injectors are firing

Hey, there is a fuse in the underdash box that supplies power to the fuel pump, main relay, ecu and a couple of other things. When this fuse is blown, the car will crank but will not start, but you will also get no check engine light cause the ecu is not working. What I am thinking, is that somehow, when you turn on the "fuel pump switch" it is backfeeding some of the other circuits and allowing you to get cel, but still not working right. Hope your following me here. So, with you saying that there were some wires that were shorted, I am thinking the ELD has gone bad. The ELD is located in the underhood fuse box, open that box and sniff it (lol, I said sniff the box). If it smells burnt or has an "electrical smell" to it, it is most likely bad. If you have one you can swap it with, swap it out and make sure the fuse that I mentioned is still good and give it a try. If you have any questions or if nothing I said made sense, you can shoot me an email or PM (if they are working).

?? My 89 dx doesn't have a fuel pump fuse. All the wiring diagrams I've seen for 88-91 civic's show the fuel pump connecting directly to the main relay.
