89 accord to odb1 conversion p06 ecu & 93 accord distributor
working on converting my odb0 89 accord to odb1 for tuneability for my turbo setup. i will be using a civic p06 ecu, custom jumper harness, and 93 accord external coil distributor. if yor not fimiliar with 86-89 a20a motor accord they use a vacume advance distributor that gives you almost no tuneability. nothing is exactly swap and play, alot of custom work plus trial and error envolved
this is my 93 accord distributor. when initaill held up to the a20a hed, not only where the mounting legs in the wrong place, but it was hitting the water neck for the thermostat. this is the head where the dizzy mounts http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3...ture2536kp.jpg this is the new accord dizzy being held where i want to mount it. as you can see its a tight fit, its hitting the mounting screw for the water neck http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2...ture2520wa.jpg did a lil modification to the dizzy case to get a nice snug fit http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7...ture2540kp.jpg way better fit now http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/6866/Picture055.jpg i figured it would be esier to modify the cam cap where the dizzy mounts to than the dizzy legs themself. here is the original cam cap http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/6470/Picture053.jpg so i cut both legs off with my chop saw http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/298/Picture057.jpg i decided to use a leg off an old d16z6 cam cap to weld to the a20a cam cap this is me cutting the leg off the d16z6 cam cap http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/2310/Picture058.jpg the leg once its cut off http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/3989/Picture060.jpg i also cut the leg off a b18a cam cap but it was kinda short. this is the d16z6 leg on the left the b18a on the right. just so i dont have to do two different weld on the right side ill use another d16z6 leg on the right also. but as you can see in this pic the d16z6 leg lines up perfectly http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/9771/Picture065.jpg i have a miller syncrowave200 tig welder. so in preperation for the welds i wire brushed the a20a cam cap and the legs so that ill have a clean mating surface http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/5747/Picture064.jpg see the difference betheen the clean and dirty http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/5870/Picture061.jpg once the new legs are welding on, the 93 accord distributor will be mountable. since the distributor is not in a very different position the originally on the accord. a fellow 3geez.com member calculated the degrees difference and came up with the soultion to redrill the cam key. this will have the rotor on the right cyclender for TDC. http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4527/2388ws0.jpg next is the ecu. since no one makes a conversion harness for 89 accords to odb1 i decided to try it myself firs i opend a spare a20a acu pm plave are to remove the solder so i can get the plugs off http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/4715/Picture560.jpg i removed the whole board form the ecu case so that i could get to the bottom where the soldered connections were i didet have a desoldering gun so i used the next best thing, a benzo torch. i did this because it was fast, and i didnt need the rest of the ecu http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/6325/Picture556.jpg here are my imput sockets finally removed http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/9171/Picture550.jpg these are my parts for the conversion harness. i got the a20a ecu imput sockets and the p06 odb1 wire plugs http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/55/Picture549.jpg luckly for me alot of the leg work was done already over at 3geez.com for the air up. but here is a ecu pinout diagram for the conversion. http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/3765/9214ow9.jpg once completed it should look something like this http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9145/DS1CF0008.jpg now all i have to do is get my p06 ecu chipped from ------------- and put everything together. as of right now i plan on tuning with crome. not 100% solid on the idea, and i am open to any advice! if you visit www.3geez.com you should check out wat others are doing for this conversion http://3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37494 http://3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18160 |
