3k and pissin me off
ok so i got the set up on, yeah. now im running into problems.
d16a6 t3 .42/.48 hf manifold dsm smi dsm bov 240cc injectors pm6 / turboedit so this is the problem i tried several diffirent maps i tried my own base map, and just about any others i could find, and for the most part they all started the vehicle and ran. some ran better than others. but all would not let me rev past 3k. its like rev limit kicks in. it happens wether im in boost or not. i have a cel but the red light on the ecu stays on and doesnt blink. this is realy upsetting me because i would realy like to actually drive my car. if anyone has any sugestions or needs more info please. |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
you use the chipped ecu before ok?
solid cel is usually bad chip or socket. |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
no i chipped the ecu myself, evrything seemed to go ok, so this is first time useing it. hmmmm
should i take back out and make sure all the soldering is ok. willem says the chip is ok. damn that sucks if i fucked it up i was real carefull. hmmm |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
Put the stock chip in it that you desoldered.
If it _still_ runs in limp mode (what you're experiencing) then you fucked up chipping. But it's OK, take your time, desolder the socket carefully, and take it out. Look to see if there are any torn traces (the little "paths" of metal that run around the board) around the pin holes for the socket. 9 times out of 10, a solid CEL comes from a torn trace form when you pulled the socket it out. It's got this gooey ---- on top that you also have to desolder from the legs. Even then you still have to be careful because the gooey ---- sticks to the cihp, and when you pry the stock chip out, it rips those traces that run under the chip. ...so, put the stock chip back in and try it (just to see if you don't get that solid CEL, if you don't, then you have a problem burning the program. |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
yup exactley like you said, so i tried to desolder it. and well i guess my inexperianced self got in a rush or didnt pay attention and goofed it up. when i pried up it ripped the little wire thing out completley. :( so i guess it was a good learning experience. now the quest for another pm6. or maybe see if radio shack sells a board repair kit or something.
i used that stupid braid ---- to remove the solder and it sucked, do the sucker bulbe things work better. thanks for the input |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
HAhaha I use the braid all the time... there is a technique you need to use when doing otherwise, it'll take you forever and the solder won't come all of the way out.
Use the *hottest* part of your tip (yes, it does not heat evenly) and hold the braid down on the solder point with the that part of the tip... here is the technique -> pull the braid tight! If you pull the braid tight, you will literally see the solder soak up into the braid (sort of cool in an electronic dork-ass sort of way :P ). That will make sure each hole is completely clean. Now, abotu your current ECU.. don't pitch it yet! ..look to see if you can see where the trace broke.. and where it goes to. Use a small peice of wire and just solder it between the broken spots! :D GIve it a try.. the ECU can't get any worse than it already is.. ;) |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
sweet thanks alot for the advice im gonna try that tonight after work ;D

Re: 3k and pissin me off
Myself personally, when I dont get to use my fancy desolder station, I like to use a combination of the sucker and the braid. I get the majority of the solder out of each spot with the sucker and then use the braid to remove the remaining solder from the holes. Sometimes you will have to desolder from the bottom and top side of the ecu to make sure the holes are clean. With the chip in still, you will actually be able to see light thru the tiny holes if the solder is removed.
To help with with the 'Goo' that honda puts there that seems to stick the chip in place, here's a tip. After you think you have all the holes desoldered, give the top of the chip a little wack so that the solid glue cracks in place and frees up the chip. Works for me all the time even if it doesnt sound so 'gentle.' :-\ Just dont wack so hard you crack the board ;) |

boost+turboedit+STOCK INJECTORS? why? :-\

i was going to ask the same question. why are still runnning stock injectors? i know your problem is with the ecu chipping but stock injectors? where are the 450's at? :-\ |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
why even bother saving the stock chip?
to prevent tearing traces removing a stock or aftermarket soldered chip...i just cut the legs with some fine wire snips. the chip part of the chip comes out then i hold the end of a leg and heat the solder and it comes right out. then desoldering is a real breeze with desolder braid. i don't have much luck using the bulb type sucker unless there is quite a bit of leg or whatever sticking out of the board...if it's real close to the board i have much better luck with the braid. |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
thanks everyone for the advice, i realy appreciate everyones help. i just got the whole thing set up and my 390's are no good. they made alot of noise and caused bad idle and jurky acceleration. so for now i have 240's off of some v6 acura. until i can provide myself with the cash to buy some bigger ones. i get paid friday so im hopeing to kinda smooth some of these things out...... hopefully. trust me it is not my will to run stock injectors. ok well im going to attemt to bring my ecu back to life now ill keep everyone posted thanks again.

Re: 3k and pissin me off
first- if you get the ecu worked out and go run the ---- out of it on 240cc injectors they are going to be at 100% duty cycle in boost, and it will still be lean, and you will be owned by detonation.
second- i know you said they were "noisey" but did you ever consider that it wasnt running good on the 390's because of your ecu problems and/or a bad map? |
Re: 3k and pissin me off
ok so i peformed what seemed like brain surgery and well it kinda worked. the ecu led light blinks once when i go to start it and it starts up ok, ruff idle, now it will rev past 3 k but is very jurky/ hesitates. no more cel but light randomly blinks rapidly. im just going to go for a dif ecu maybe one that is already chipped. thanks again it was definatley a learning experiance.
i know running on 240's is very unrecomended. im just trying to get the car running. ive been reading on this forum for a while and i know what some noobs on here try to get by with and they end up paying for it later. all im doing is getting it running, makeing sure everything is operational and then introduce the boost slowly and gradually turn it up as i feel more comfortable with my set up and tuneing on TE. but first is getting past my inexperiences with some of these things. thanks for watching out for me thos definatley good advice. after i get the ecu thing worked out i think i will try the 390's again your probably right it might have been the ecu i messed up causing the problems. thnks |
