Hello everyone,

New user here looking for some info about engine management.

Recently I've completed a turbo conversion for the 0.8L 3 cyl daewoo matiz engine.

It has taken me quite a while to figure things out as there is absolutely no info as to what to expect from this tiny engine, so everything was pretty much trial and error. Parts I've used are:

- Turbo Garrett T2
- FMIC JAWarehouse + custom piping
- stainless steel exhaust with Borla mufflers
- blow off HKS SSQV
- AEM AFR gauge (complete with wideband O2 sensor)
- BMC air filter
- slim radiator fan.

To my surprise, the car is drivable with the stock ECU and MAP sensor, however AFR is high under boost (it won't stall or anything, but it does give out a little bit of smoke, an indicator of unburned fuel). Now that wouldn't be a problem aside from the fact that my stock O2 sensor (extracted from the original manifold and placed after the turbo) now generates an error and the check engine light turns on.

When I drive it normally the car runs basically N/A and there are no problems whatsoever.

With that said, I started contacting my local tuner shops in order to find someone to adjust the fuel map for a more gentle AFR value. For now, I plan to run on low boost: 0.3-0.4 bar, until I get to prepare a new engine and fuel system that can handle more.

The big problem is that they're either reluctant to do it, they think it's not worth it (like a 0.8 L engine is suddenly not an engine anymore) or they try getting me for a sucker and propose expensive standalone management at a point where it is clearly not needed.

It boggles my mind why they refuse to even attempt to tone down the gas at high revs, they have become infatuated with cars that produce hundreds of bhp, running on 2-3 bar boost, and suddenly they're not capable of adjusting a bit my ECU map.

With that said, if I don't find anyone to do this for me correctly I may have to resort to buying a standalone even if it's overkill at this point in the build.

Big question would be what to get for that occasion? My car doesn't have fancy electronics, it's just a simple city car with a driver's airbag, air conditioning and manual gearbox. No ABS, no fancy ESP, no dashboard computer. Just a direct injection engine in need of some love and caring.

Solved. I'm now running a dyno tuned Unichip piggyback. Here are the results for 0.4 bar of boost.

Fuel delivery and MAP sensor are stock (maxed out though).

Now I need to upgrade the clutch :).

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but that's awesome! I do like a small-engined turbo conversion.

Nice. I like what you did with the manifold - gives the turbo some visibility rather than being tucked away.

I have AC so between that and the little space available there would have been no room to change the oil filter if the turbo went down. As a side advantage besides looks, running a catless manifold shaped for N/A also helps while running offboost and the dyno sheet shows that.

There will be some further mods along the way in order to reduce the temps under the hood. If all goes according to plan, next year the turbo will have a full professional hybrid rebuild along with ceramic coating for the manifold, hot side and downpipe. If I do all that and also retain the heat wrap and add a turbo blanket, it should be good for lowering the boost threshold from the current 3200 rpm to under 3000, and I'll probably hit 100 hp with only 0.6 bar of boost.

Which means more than double from stock while keeping the boost as low as possible and not needing forged internals :D

Hi guys. My friend and I just finished our 800cc turbo Matiz build. We used a vf13 Subaru turbo and Gotech management. It made 83kw and 137nm @1bar boost.
