Default 15+ PSI on OBDO System. What program to Tune with? SAFC II w/ 550's?

Im in the process of building the ---- out of my D16A6 right now. I want to boost it retaining the stock OBDO so if there is any comapny that allows me to do this please enlighten me. I would LOVEEEEEEE to be able to use the Safc II, would that be possible on 550cc injectors

Mods-

Head-
Milled .040
Ferrerea retainers
Dual Titanium valve springs
1mm oversized valves
Delta 272 Cam
AEM adjustable cam gear
3 angle valve job
Mild port n polish

Block-
Suzuki Grand vitara pistons
Eagle rods
stock bore
balanced and micropolished crank

How much bost do you guys think this motor is capable of?

I built this motor on a budget of $1200 and am very happy on the qulaity and quantity of the work I got done. But now I want to boost is but I also need it to be daily driven.

I want to retain the OBD0, but I also want to push 15+ psi daily which cant be done with the S-AFC I was planning on using.

Could you guys give me some ideas on what type of managment I should use? I will not be doing the tuning myself, will have to bring it to a dyno shop.

I will have a laptop if that matters, the cheaper the better, but I dont think most dyno shops know how to use turboedti and ---- like that. Just Hondata, which I believe only runs on OBD1?

Also wouldnt mind being able to switch from like a daily driven 10psi tune and somehow switch to a track tune of 17psi or whatever. I know the SAFC II allows this

Thanks for any help

ZDYNE is the only other OBD0 engine management that I know.

If you were tuning it yourself I would say TurboEdit, but you're not...

ZDYNE isnt cheap though...

As far as Dyno people being able to tune it..

If they can tune Zdyne, they can tune TurboEDIT, as OBD0 uses the name numeric across the board: Milliseconds for fuel, and Degress before top dead center for igntiion.

How is Zdyne run? Is it a standalone or is your ecu chipped?

Can it be changed on the fly with a laptop?

Ive heard of people going to 12psi with 440's so if I go with 550's and just hack the shitty idle, I would be able to use the SAFC II right?

I would be able to have a setting for street and a setting for track and the 550's wouldnt be maxed out on only 15-17psi

EDIT- I would also have a gm 3 bar map sensor, right.......

zdyne gold is theone u can tune on the fly; but it's spendy unless you're lucky. the silver is a tune-burn-install chip type thing.
Zdyne basically hacked up the stock obd0 computer and added their own stuff.

and 450dsm injectors are good for about 300hp. you probably won't hit near that with a built a6 only pusshing 12 or whatever psi; even from a pretty beefy turbo.

and whatever you do dont ------- install that piece of ---- afc hack.... you're ignition will be rediculously advanced and you will ---- something up

I ran 17psi on my Y8 with 450's, 3 degrees retard, and the afc hack. I don't know how, and I wouldn't suggest it, but i did.

The biggest regret I have about the whole project is not kidnapping Jason Parker and forcing him to tune my ish. Or maybe it's not being able to figure out what I was doing with TE, I can't figure out which.

JLT you dont think I will easily hit 300whp with this motor and a prescision turbo?

Ive seen quite a few 300whp d16y8's on turbod16.com with a ---- load less and 2 not even touching there head. I think it would be prettyeasy with my motor to get 300

Also, why wouldnt the S-afc II be any good? With 550's I would still be able to have the AFC set at 37 or whatever but because I have 550's..... I dunno Im new

I just dont have the $800 for a standalone, not do I have the knowledge or tuners available in my area to tune me on a Hondata or Zdyne

SafcII seems dam *** easy and with a air fuel gauge or a wide band or however its done, I could tune a setting for both daily driven and track with it.

Seems all realistic to me, what am I missing

You're missing the willingness to be patient, teach yourself and ------- DO IT YOURSELF.

Tuning cars is not rocket science. If you paid attention in chemistry and physics classes, the theory should come back to you pretty ------- quick. Otherwise, it's still not that hard.

You have a decision to make. You can wait and save money to pay someone else to think for you OR you can wait, save money, study and teach yourself about tuning and THEN take a vacation with the money you saved. (or go faster.)

Choice is yours.

i agree..but i find it hard soemtimes when you cant get someone to with you some guidance. Im trying to learn TE and how the whole tuning deal works...so far i learned how to do the basemap..i think...now i need to learn what all the numbers and ---- represent.

anyway..i say use TE and save yourself some $$$

AFC + 15psi is not a good idea.

turbo edit is free, just costs the chipping and burning supplies ($150ish) + tuning.

the tuning "scope" for the afc is like 6-8psi.. anymore and u risk detonating due to advanced timing.

you've done everything right so far.. dont get inpatient and run half assed engine management.
