Default Ford Will Sell Plug-In Version of Fusion Hybrid

Ford Motor Co. said it will begin selling later this year a plug-in hybrid, gasoline-electric version of its redesigned Fusion mid-sized sedan.

The vehicle will be one of several fully electric and plug-in hybrids that Ford will put on the market this year, including the new Focus compact electric car, the C-Max hybrid wagon and the C-Max plug-in hybrid, gasoline-electric vehicle.

With the plug-in Fusion, Ford will field a competitor to General Motors Co.'s battery-powered Chevrolet Volt, which has a small gasoline engine that can charge the battery. The Dearborn, Mich., auto maker said the vehicle will achieve the equivalent of 100 miles a gallon. It's difficult to measure fuel economy with plug-in vehicles because sometimes they use no gasoline.
