Smile Hi from Perth, West Australia..Westfield owner

Good'ay all!

Thought I should introduce myself.

I have been mucking around with cars/motorbikes/boats for a very long time....all NA. I'm must disclose...I'm an old fart....just had my big 6ohh birthday.

Seeing as I'm trying to avoid growing too old...thought I should get myself a car with an ECU!

I have just bought an old Westfield(Locost) clubman car that has a std Toyo 4age 16v bluetop (3 rib) in it. I bought it to have fun at track days/hillclimbs/speed events. It has a Toyo T50 gearbox through to an Escort 3.9 diff. Runs 14" Wheels to which I have just fitted some street legal Dunlop tarmac DRZ03GS soft tyres.

Used it for the 1st time last weekend at the Collie rack (circuit racing) and it handles/stops really well. I'm sure I'm going to get used to it's power pretty quickly though!!

I have attached some photos of the green Westfield and my daily driver - a White Sunbeam Tiger (1965, Windsor 302, hi comp, cam, head work).....Oh, and by the way...that's my son in the Westfield!

Very keen to learn from this site how to do a low cost turbo install for the Westfield. I'd like to try a std compression (9.5:1) low boost - 6 psi....set up first. I'm thinking of doing the following:-

Build a Megasquirt 2 ECU for fuel/timing/boost control (unless a cheaper/better way exists)

Fabricate exhaust manifold either using mandrel bent tubing or welding flange onto existing 4age manifold (which looks like it flows well).(unless a cheaper/better way exists).

Fabricate piping and install an intercooler somewhere....not much room....maybe I need an air/water ic?

Check engine mains/big ends to ensure good. The engine is in very good condition, very good oil pressure, compressions all good, engine oil clean no noises etc. Probably should retorque the head down...some tell me they are not tight enough to start with??

The Westfield weighs 545kgs and with the std 4age 88kw (though some tell me its more like 96kw) it's a little rocket....I'm hoping a low boost 4age should produce around 150kw+ so that should liven things up nicely.

For anyone that's interested I've also included some video of my Tiger at the local Meelup hillclimb. It's not a car you see everyday...unless you watch old TV series like Get Smart!!

It has very long gears (2.88 diff with CR Toploader...pulls 110kph in 1st gear!). It has a Salisbury LSD. When I built the motor it was 320hp and 345 ft lbs. It has run 13.1 at the drags.

I had to back off for the corner but it will spin up the wheels all the way through 1st easily!

I just had to launch it hard as this was on a closed road course with the local police looking on! I couldn't contain myself!!

Anyway, glad I found this forum and if anyone reads this and lives in Perth (Applecross or Busselton) and likes to talk cars or bikes....love to hear from you. Especially any Turbo 4age owners!!

Cheers
David Tweddle.
