Another new guy
Hi all, quick wave from Australia
Couldn't really find anywhere obvious to post some noob turbo questions, so figured here was as good as anywhere:
I'm working on a slightly different project (building a turbo minus the car engine, in effect a jet engine), but someone on here might know where to find the information I'm after. I have acquired a turbo with the following characteristics:
T3/T4 T04E
Compressor Wheel
A/R: 0.5 || Inlet: 52.7 mm || outlet: 75.8 mm || Trim: 48
Turbiner Wheel
A/R:0.63 || Ind: 64 mm || Exd: 57.85 mm || Trim: 72
I pretty much have the same question asked several different ways so if anyone can help with any of them it would be great:
-> Could someone point me to an appropriate compressor and turbine map for this turbo? The closest I have found is a T04E 50 trim (unspecified A/R) compressor map and no turbine maps.
-> Alternatively: Is this turbine capable of handling as much air as the compressor produces + fuel + heat expansion from stoichiometric combustion at any given turbo RPM?
-> Alternatively: As the the compressor and turbine are (more or less) directly linked, without a displacement motor or gear changes to mess with the system, I would guess the need for a blowoff valve would be eliminated. However is the need for a wastegate also eliminated? (My thoughts are: Without a waste gate, boost is unregulated, so an excess of air would increase pressure in the system which would decrease compressor efficiency [due to the increased resistance] so less air would be pushed in. Turbine efficiency would drop due to the extra work needed, so more air would need to flow through the turbine to do the same work, overall creating a self regulating system. My logic could be [and probably is] wrong though)
-> Generally speaking the need for boost restriction is to avoid knock/damaging the engine as opposed to avoiding damage the turbo correct? So it theoretically possible that it might be safe to run much higher boost levels with the limiting factor being turbo RPM yeah?
Anyhow, hope someone could give me some pointers...
