maybe i should include more information:
i searched too and found mixed results.. some say the all heads are the same, and some say they are different. I have a 93 toyota pickup with a beat rod bearing on the 22re. A guy in pa has an 85 22r for sale but its carb'd. I need to know if his block will bolt to my tranny and if my efi ---- will bolt to the carb'd head.

22re vs 22r. no difference other than bolt on.
up to 1980 it was the 20r. best flowing head, will not simply bolt (unless its 81-84 22r) to a 85+ 22r. if the valve cover front is SLOPED at a 45, it's pre 1985. if it's almost straight, it's 85+
81-95 bolt ons (intake, exhaust, etc) will bolt. early 22r exh manis had one single bolt between #2 & #3 exh ports, late had two. early castings had all 3, later only had outer two.
what year of efi, to what year of carb?
cams will not make a difference. find a turbo cam or a 250-260 grind if youre looking to play a little with it. efi will only benefit by mpg, and a few hp/tq. weber carb + 22r + good merging header = more powahz than efi will be, with 24mpg highway.

Re: yoda guys: does efi bolt to a carb'd 22r?
its an 86 carb'd engine with 80k orig miles. going into my 93 pickup that came with a 22re. I got the truck and a 22rte turbo motor for doing a timing chain on a nissan 240. the turbo engine needs a rebuild or id really want to put that in there, but i need my truck running ASAP so i decided to go the stock engine route for now. I dont feel like ------- with adding carbs and such, so im just gonna swap the efi intake on.
thanks!
