Right, burning fuel (oil, coal, etc) to make steam is much more efficient and way way cheaper.

your right of course. I'm forgetting my thermodynamics lectures! :P

what about the gas turbine engines used in ships? Not reciprocating, neither do they use steam. And they're really big

BTW, this is seriously ancient

BTW, this is seriously ancient

Turbines are lighter and have a smaller footprint, but they cost more to run. They are not as efficient either. Most of the ships that use turbine engines are cruise ships. Bling Bling.


That engine there is really quite efficient. Only 0.278 BSFC. I wish my D15 could do that.
