Well, you can look at it this way. Do it right the first time, and never have to worry about it again unless you decide to switch home theaters that use different weird plugs...which even then you can splice into the existing wires.

You could do a nice in-the-wall wiring setup with a couple speaker outlets

I've never wired anything through walls, so no f'ing clue how big of a PITA it is, but figure it is one. Whenever I get into a house, I'd like to wire ethernet hookups and speaker outlets, but it depends on how big of a pain it really is.

you can pull the edge of the carpet back, you don't need to rip it all up

I would say stands or rearrange your living room where they can be placed on another wall.
