find the EGR valve body. trace the vac line to the valve (should be on intake or somewhere between TB/carb and head. if there is the EGR line +2 other lines (or one, running to a constant vac) get that ----. doesn't matter what year, the later models used a metal internals based one that withstands temps better and doesnt stick as much.

egr effects power no more than 10%, but about 25-35% on mileage. i used to go 200 miles on ~8.2 gallons, now i go 120 on ~8.2
