The economic downturn has actually helped at my work. Business got so slow lately we had to get rid of 4 drivers. Not a hard choice to make. Union can't do ---- when the business isn't making enough money to pay all employees.

I did work for UPS, as a steward for the Teamsters. One of my co-workers got accused of threatening the center manager while he was in a trailer. Supposedly the only people who heard this were 2 lower managers. He got fired. As a steward, I had to defend the kid to get his job back. He claimed he didnt say any such thing. I guess if he was honest, it would have been good for him, however, after getting a job back from such an occurance and it being on your record, I would think you would be more succeptable for harassment, though I'm sure they would be all sneaky about it.

Benefits are nice, I miss the healthcare. and few paid days off. On the other hand, I worked my *** off to watch other employees ---- off on the clock. Grievences are crazy. When you file one for say a manager working a unuion position, everybody above you gets paid too. Think how much that ---- really costs. Hell, look how much it costs to ship a damn package and you see how unuions really just ---- us all. Hell, I'd NEVER buy a car new from the big 3. Costs too damn much, and cant hold value. You would think 20+ years of losing market share would open someone's eyes. ------- blind leading the dumb here in america and we wonder why we're in the ******* and its startiing to swirl. Ain't going nowhere but down from here. Till we get it right, tell the unuions to ---- off, and start looking at mutual profits. Hell, the guy I worked for in FL modifying race propellers paid me 40% of the GROSS. Basicly, after paying Utilities, Taxes, and Supplies, I made 5% more than he did on the work I did. Which came to about $400 a day on average. ------- coke-head, but thats a story for another day.

Being in a union is great if you want to make a decent wage. Just know once you are in the union, most people will think of you as a lazy, know-nothing shitbag. I recently ran into a guy who is a 30 year union carpenter that didn't know how to screw a bolt into a t-nut. I think its billable rate at that show was $100/hr. He probably made $40-$50/hr.

I'd personally suggest being a teamster. Drive forklifts all day and destroy property and not have to give a ----. It's a pretty money gig.

Unions are part commie. Unionized ***** made the company my father worked for ship out ten years ago. They also fucked him out of a tool room position because some dipshit who was a lazy ------- had more seniority than he did, and bitched about. The guy never even wanted the job! he was just bitching about seniority.

The company I work for now has said we do not want unions here.

I am capitalist to the core. The success of the company is more important than the people who work for it. If the company doesn't succeed than no one has a job.

Unionizing is one of Obama's agendas. you will see a rise in unions I guarantee it.

Work hard, make your self an asset to the company, don't be a union nut swinger.

Or hell start you own business.

20 years in two different unions, only way to work for a crooked company.

There really isn't a need for unions. Get in with a good private company if it is a trade like painting, electrical, carpentry, etc. Unions are a business, they take your money and tell you what to do.

You will see the union take jobs that are a raw deal for the workers because the big wigs got taken care of. Sure the members can vote but the heads of the union get the final say no matter what.

I have seen a few select unions simply use it as a tool to keep out crap workers, but that is by far the minority. Most unions work as a incubator for poor workers due to seniority clauses.

Remember that we are in a poor economy. Less jobs means that available jobs in a union will go to the longest serving members, that would not be you. Without a union, the jobs will go to the best workers, that could be you. At least the ability to get work is in your hands without the union.

Sure the unions can get you a raise, but the dollars don't matter if you don't have work. lol.

I am a member of a union the CEP[ communications, energy&paper workers] local 603.It does have some downfalls such as seniority being the requirement for advancement most of the time, protection of lazy people and other similar things mentioned here. The positives though are good especially in a dangerous work place such as the enviroment I work in a pulp mill in the steam and recovery department. There are regulations set out by the goverment for safety standards but from past experience in non union settings these are generally ignored quite often. As well having a collective voice for bargaining wages etc is good and there is polices in place for layoffs, severance packages etc.I get full medical, dental, work boots paid for and many other things for a measily $30-40 a cheque.Last thing to consider is pension as this varies greatly per union but I have one of the best pension plans in North America and the company has to contribute to that as well.I would say the positive def out ways the negative.I wish some unions would learn to be more progressive though as you need to be able to adapt to the times a prime example would be the UAW who are really killing the big three and some concessions on there part would probably help out the situation.
