I have a motorola V600 and my buddy had a motorola cable, but it did the same thing that yours does. I finally broke down and went to Best Buy and got a cell phone kit that does pretty much every phone with either a data-link, or IRDA port. Downside, it's like 60 bux 
Sorry bout the driver link, i figured it might be worth a shot though. If ya ever need drivers for your pc though, that's the place to go
