guy I bought my ranger from use to haul his atv in the bed all the time, its a 97 4cyl 5spd, gets 30mpg highway and around 25 in town. Biggest thing I've hauled in it was two mini bikes though.

the basic Tacoma is a very good truck. from the first model to 2006 (not the newest one) has a 2.4L 5 speed and gets 25ish mpg with comfy interior, SUPER chill A/C and decent handling.

I`ve transported a friends 600lb bike with it and it drives/accelarate AND stops better then a stupid ford range with the v6 engine.

I say just slap a hitch on your wagon and maybe a oil cooler for the tranny since you said it's an auto. Maybe an electric brake too.

A buddy is building a 400 whp 2WD wagon currently. He wants to keep it on the DL, locally, but I'm sure posting a few pics would fly under the A-town radar. I have to clear it with him first though.
