Re: What i've been doing at work.
I get to play with these guys all day.
and I get to clean up the mess that was left by bad planning (or lack thereof) after 10 years of growth in the data center.
Most of this cluster ---- is the old KVM that ****** had DIMM connections! The newer KVM's are slick, all CAT5 no jumble of wires
heres some switches, the backplane and telecom ----. my data center is my second home

Re: What i've been doing at work.
is that similar to a dsx panel... i hate frames... there such a pain if you have to rewire something.... tracing those little mother fucken clusters... even though it could have all been avoided if they were labeled properly...
i dont have to touch the switching side of that much... just the satty side ... but every now and again i get to mess with a few idnx/promina problems...
i honestly hate dealing with routers and setting up stat rts (even though thats about as simple as it gets) but its still just annoying as ----... i rather deal with the whole signal flow concept ... i guess i just like the fact that with a push of a button i can stop all coms in an out... kind of gives you a power trip... heheheheheh
oh and the cableing issue... its everywere in comms... cause over years new people come and go and the old people just get tired of fixing the problems... when i started this job... my first few weeks of work i didnt do anything but fix other peoples work...
now its like anytime we dont have anything to get programmed or orchastrated (ie how a new system will be installed or training some on something new) then i just go around and find dead end cables and pull them up... there everywere...

aparently early this week there was a rig that got stuck by a barge and the two field techs for that region(houston) have to go work on the equipment and the only time is sat... and they just happened to be the only guys in there reagion to know how to work the satty truck and there is a broadcast for *** coms in houston so our two field tech have to cover for them and then we ended up getting the contract to back up espn... so now i the only guy who is expandable at the gateway ... thank god im the new guy ... kick ***...
well if your watching tv pregame and postgame and you see a sattelite truck that looks like this...
