I turned down the $3/hour pay raise for going to flat rate, but now that the shop has slowed down and there isn't much work, I laugh at the flat rate guys bitching about not getting paid while I sit on my *** and collect $14/hour.
BTW, Hey Jeff, did you ever take/pass the ASE L1? I'm taking it in november, and only 1 tech here has passed it so far.

Re:What Does Everyone Do ?
I've been flat rate for 2 years now, I'm really enjoying it, I was scared at first because I was so use to the steady paycheck. But ----, example this week (a good one) Mon I got 15.5 yesterday 15.4 and today 23.5, so I'm sitting at 54.4 and I still have one day left How many of those hours are those am I actually working? I would guess around 30 ish, and how many hours am I actually there? 38-40ish But dont get me wrong.. there have been those 6.5 hour days and your there for 12 I love to hassle all our hourly techs
As far as ASE's.. thats a touchy subject.. I've only passed a few.
Jeff

There are only 3 techs in our shop (me included) and I think we turned 23 hours total today. It sucks right now. Hyundai just builds too good a car :-)
The good part of being hourly still is I get all the engine work while the flat rate guys take all the cake work. Keeps me entertained.
