My father always has strange project cars. He had an old Trans Am, then Nova SS, then Karma Ghia (or wtf it is), and now a couple Porsche 914s.
I think they're ugly as ----, but whatever. He thinks my CRX is ugly too.

All front engine watercooled are mechanic's cars. Only the 944 turbo is even close to worth it. I bought mine cheap off a customer who didnt want to spend the cash to restore it. If you cant stand to work on a dsm, dont even think about a Porsche.
944 were semi-reliable new. Not so much now that the newest is pushing 20 years old. There are A LOT of things that are common to go wrong, and I really dont feel like naming everything off right now, because I want to enjoy the rest of my sunday.
Pelican has some good stuff, avoid the ---- out of any porsche forum except Renntech. The others are the German equivalent to Honda-tech.
Long story short, unless you just absolutely love the car and want a project to slowly spend money on, stay away from a Porsche.
Chances are you wont be happy with the car just as a 'picked it up cheap' kinda ride.
