Obviously you have no idea what it's like. I'm guessing your solution is to "get over it" and stop being depressed? You have no idea what you're talking about so you should keep your uneducated, retared comments out of such a serious discussion. As soon as you research the subject and get some sort of a clue as to what you're talking about you can come in here and tell someone with such a serious medical condition that they're pathetic, until then, STFU.

I have neve rbeen depressed in my life. If you know me, you know I'm always joking and laughing/smiling. I excercise regularly and socialize often. I work in retail so I am always meeting new ppl and stuff. I dont have nay suicidal thought or intentions. and I think I got a boner today, so I think I'm safe for now. It's only been my second pill since yesterday and I am staying awake longer and seeming to focus a litle bit better. Went to work today and took a pill. a couple hours later, I was felling less tired and was functioning. I still do ---- without realising that I'm doing it. I have honestly never had anythign in my life make me sad. So this totally kicked me in teh *** out of nowhere. Doc says it was bc my dad got married to this woman that I dont like and it has screwed up our relationship and it has eaten at me for the past few months and finally got me. At this rate, I should be better by the end of next week. I hope sooner though. Thanks for the support guys

I'd hate to say it, but anti-depressants don't work that fast. You'll feel "strange" for the first few days and usually the first dose will ---- your world up into another dimension. They usually take a few weeks to "kick in", but I guess everybody is different.

Well I'm glad to hear you aren't having any problems anymore. There is no cure for human condition? Do you realize what this medicine does? Just because it didn't work for you or your friends doesn't mean it won't work for anybody.

I'm sure you're going to tell me you and all of your friends never drank while you were on the meds, but alcohol completely changes the way they work. Drinking while on anti-depressants is not a good idea, but I'm sure you and you're friends NEVER touched alcohol while on them, right?

quite correct. it will take 2 to 3 weeks before you actually get a real effect from any antidepressants. the side effects start immediately so you will feel that but the chemical balances in your brain and your interpretations of these changes take awhile. its not like advil. although the placebo affect is all it takes for some people and there is the whole mind over matter theory and if you think you feel better its because you think it not because of the chemical changes because physicaly thats not possible yet.

btw social anxiety and/or social phobias are an entirely different disorders from depression, they may both occur in the same individual but are they in no way synonymous. if you've ever taken any abnormal psych classes or other sort of mental psyche classes and have read up with the DSM-IV you'd maybe have a clue what you were talking about

dr boost seems to have a good comprehension on the subject so advice from him would be welcomed

I been taking Zoloft for about three years now and I have to say that it helps alot. I take if for anxiety and it seems to work for me. So don't be ashame of taking some prozac, cuz there is nothing wrong with that. I say, if it works for you then take it, but do watch out for side effects. And talk to your doctor about it everytime you go in to see him/her.

Doc, all my friends are alcoholics in my opinion. What I AM saying is that this ---- really does pass if you do not make to much out of it. Depression is the same chemically as other emtoions, except fucked up and not wanting to change. When I look back on it, it's really funny how much you change as a person when you got through a bout of depression, but it's not all bad. Shows you how not to be a dick, and when you see the symptoms coming on in the future, you can head them off by slowing down and relaxing for a bit.
What helps me with depression and what I try to convince others to do when they are going through it? Stop making any plans for the future, take stock of your life and do something VERY short term that makes you happy. All you need to do is balance your ---- out by keeping your body from feeling pressured.
What the meds do, is they completely block your chemical nogs from picking your unhappy cotton. The ---- is still there, your body just can't react to it, so what happens is after a while you're too ------- emotionally dead to care and you snap back to "normal".
I hate America's crackhead phase.

WTF, I went the anxiety meds route in my early 20's, benzo's just made me kiss the carpet. Having the pill bottle in my pocket and feeling like I could put and end to an anxiety attack was enough placebo effect to get a grip on myself and get over it.

ADHD meds, however, have a decidedly relaxing/anti-anxiety effect on me, without me passing out for 8-15 hours off of a prescribed dose.

Generic benzos, or ADHD drugs, are like $10/month. Doc hits you for $60-200 depending on who you go to, though. Might want to check in with your local county health dept... not the best care ever, but if you know what you need, or it's basic antibiotics ----, you're taken care of.
