Welding stainless steel ?
Can my 120amp/220V gas welder weld stainless steel?
My freind spent $950 on an exhuast that have different dia. where they connect, he just needs them welded up.
Do I really need stainless wire for this ? Special gas ? I know my welder has the power ( easily ).

Re:Welding stainless steel ?
i thought that you would need the stainless wire to wire it, because of the rust factor.
i think you can weld it with any rod, but it can rust at the welds, and that would not exactly be something very good when you spend all that money on ss.

I have mig welded lots of stainless, you use the same gas as steel I use "blue shield" its a good mig mix. Then some stainless wire and your good to go. It weldes very nice and clean good luck You can weld it with mild steel (normal) wire if you dont care about a rust ring.

Yep, you could weld stainless with that welder. I've welded stainless a few times with my little welder and some mild steel wire. It was a little trickier to build up a good puddle at first, but you'll get it after a few try's. I mainly did it because the exhaust hangers I was using were mild steel and the piping I was welding to was stainless Just paint the welds up and you'll be fine.
