welding machines
did a search and read some articles off millerwelds.com but I was just wondering what other people are using? Are most of you guy using the welding machines that usings gas to make the shield or are you mostly sticking with the gasless welding machines?
I was contemplating on just buying a welding machine as its probably going to cost the same to have someone weld my ---- for me anyways and figured I have plenty of pieces of pipes laying around to practice on...
I was looking at these from sears... any thoughts.

Or should I get one that uses gas?
Sorry I'm a noob at welding... Just figured I'll likely be using it in the future... also do you guys know if these can be converted into a plasma cutter? I have a huge air compressor already... Or if you have one that fits my needs please let me know
Thanks

Re:welding machines
I have never owned one but I have researched the isue quite a bit. This is what Ive found:
If your going to buy one buy a good one.The cheaper ones tend to heat up,burn up/shut down on big projects if they get to hot.Im looking at getting a Miller 135 mig with gas regulator and a 40lb gas bottle.Thats a small bottle but itllbe good for now. Most the cheaper ones dont come with the gas regulators. The cheaper ones also have a shitty wire feed motor and the wire allways gets tangled up.
As for the gas or gassless, the welds look much better with gas.The flux core wire(gasless) tends to look like a really bad scar .
Like I said im not a pro but this is what Ive found from talking to Union welders at the jobs Ive been on.

Re:welding machines
I bought a Clarke 95 amp stick welder. I may just be retarded but I find it fricking hard to strike an arc with that thing. I am always getting the sticks stuck to the project. :P I got it for about $100 a sears though.

Re:welding machines
^^^I think that's just the general problem with arc/stick welding. You have to perfect the art of stick welding to not get it to stick.
