just practice... i had never touched a welder in my life, went out and bought a flux core wire feeder and pretty much learned how to weld IC pipe in about 1 1/2 hrs. its not pretty but it does the job. An angle grinder is your buddy if your conserned about the apperance.

It's important that before you weld anything, that the weld area be clean. Use a grinder and a wire brush to get it down to bare clean metal, you'll be amazed at how much a difference cleanliness makes. The rule in welding is practice makes perfect. So get out there and make sparks!!
