just practice... i had never touched a welder in my life, went out and bought a flux core wire feeder and pretty much learned how to weld IC pipe in about 1 1/2 hrs. its not pretty but it does the job.

It's important that before you weld anything, that the weld area be clean. Use a grinder and a wire brush to get it down to bare clean metal, you'll be amazed at how much a difference cleanliness makes. The rule in welding is practice makes perfect. So get out there and make sparks!!
