oxy/ace welding (gas welding) method is good, but hard to perfect it from what I heard. The bad thing I heard about oxy/ace setup is that it heats up the hole metal and it warps more VS if it were a MIG welder. Id get a MIG welder. Its easy to learn and use. If your really good at it, get a TIG welder. MIG welders uses gas because of the sheilding the wire (by using mig wire). There is also a fluxcore wire which does not require the use of a co2/argon mix tank. Oh, if you looking for a welder Id suggest looking for one with a MIG capability! so atleast you wont be buying two welding machines.

hope this helps....I dont know much about welding! I have 5 mintues of experience! thats all...im just a newbie myself

Get a MIG/Flux core combo. In case you run out of gas you can use a flux core wire. MIG will have better result than flux core though. A MIG welder with the right parts can also weld aluminium and stainless steel. TIG welding is the hardest to learn, but makes the best weld. TIG welders are usually a lot more expensive too.

good brands that I know would be Miller or Hobart..

They range from prices of $400-600 depending on model and brand.
