hmmm.... maybe i am miss-remembering. i have only worked on one DSM and that was at least 6 years ago. i remember that i couldnt wait to see what was under that bump in the hood, but at this point i dont remember if it was an sohc or dohc. i only remember that it was slow, and automatic, and i was very dissapointed in what was under the bump

It was a base, RS, or GS model with a 420a then if it hade the ECU in the engine bay. The 4g63's have the ECU and TCU (auto only) below and behind the radio in the center console.

The 420a's have the cam sprockets on the passenger side, where as the 4g63's have it on the driver side therfore necessitating the hump.

420a's also come filled from the factory with liquid fail.

Yes the 420a ECU's are under the hump but not for clearance reasons.That's all I was getting at. The hump is worthless on a GS/RS. You wouldn't be able to close the hood without it on a GST/GSX/Spyder. So it's there for a reason, just only those models.
