My current 1.8t has 56K, and I haven't had a single problem yet.

the older 1.8t's had the oiling issue, the PCV system was weak and caused sludging that clogged the oil system. and the fact that VW didnt recomend syntheic oil in the 1.8's until '02. they also changed to a larger(almost V6 size) oil filter in 03 that helped a bit.

Well Cavaliers suck *** at changing the oil/filters. Ive worked on old and new vw engine tune ups and they're not that hard. I think its because you've never worked on them until now and have experience with them finally.

Jorsher, the K-series isn't a particularly good engine design, and comes attached to a weak transmission - stock D16 gear boxes have stouter gearsets. Plus, try to work on one sometime... it is NOT pleasant.
These are not fun to work on hobbyist cars, they are overly complex bloatwagons. Soichiro died, and Honduh decided it needed to be more like GM to sell cars in America, so we got plastic body cladding on the Element and Ridgeline a la Avalance and Z71, drivetrain longevity issues to make an extra buck in parts sales, McStruts that blow out, and overcomplicating simple robust systems for the sole reasoning of creating marketing buzzwords.

I know they're bloated, that's why I won't ever own one. All new cars are bloated
I'll be sticking with a b-series for years anyway.

i had a 1980 VW jetta. it was the ----. had a few problems like replacing the water pump, the thermostat was fucked too. it was hot as ---- out one day and my fan stopped working, but i didn't notice. it was overheating so bad it was missing like crazy, and NO power, i had to hold the brake at stops to keep it from dieing(auto). that engine should have been totally fucked. i put a switch in for the fan, ran fine.
i loved that car. it was my first. metallic green color witch faded to pea green. my friends called it the grasshopper. i had 2 12" RF Punch XLC's it it i was rockin.
then i sold it to my cousin as a charity car cause his family was broke as ----. sold it for $150. then he sold it to a collector for like $700 2 months later, and got a ------- shitty thunderbird i was pissed to hear that ----.
