Vista Ultimate is good. JD just likes hating on new things because he's old and these new fangled devices are confusing.

What exactly are you seeing..... whAT ARE THE ISSUES software or hardware related, or both
Well, COM ports and wild west FTDI drivers are the basic cause of problems in XP, there are definite problems with legacy serial hardware being run via USB-serial cables in XP... but it gets even wierder in Vista.

95% of the tuning software is written for Win95 up to XP. Vista compatability mode is imperfect due to how stone age some of the tuning software I am required to run, and compatibility mode really gets ------- lost when you try to support software that attempts to deal with FTDI and USB-serial clusterfucks on the XP level.

Pretty much the only thing that is going to be Vista compatible really soon, or is right now, is eCtune and that's because Calvin writes it all in Microsfot's precious .NET. It is also the only application I open that bogs my machine momentarily upon loading, and I am a power user with 15+ apps running at any one time.

my ex had bought a laptop that came with vista back when it first came out, well alot of programs she wanted to load on it wouldn't work so i tried to just say ---- it and load XP. yeah what a fuckign headache that was, was mainly the drivers that made it hard. i couldnt find them all so i ended up just reloading vista and telling her to have fun failing at life.

Ran into this on my gf's vaio... I was able to get most everything working, but it took ------- FOREVER.

Good luck finding xp drivers for your vista computer.

We tried to downgrade to xp on my bro's laptop (HP) and ran into 25 unknown drivers. No xp drivers were offered.

Best advice, do the research first, then decide whether or not you want to do it.

tell me what driver you cant find and for what hardware... ANy OEM proprietary ---- might be an issue.... But its early enough in the cycle that i have a tough time believiong that there arent any... I think it more likely that people just cant FIND what the hell theyre looking for. ANY laptop (being setup raw and NOT from an OEM "restore" type disc is a pain in the ***, but I have yet to encounter one that I couldnt get EVERYTHING working on.
