they only sell the small tanks, but they exchange all sizes. they keep them there and just hand you another one. no wait

are you talking about tractor supply? So they have an assortment of sizes on hand for exchange only?

Alright well I have to look into that sometime next week.

So back to my original question, I shouldn't have to be worried about contamination if I fill an empty tank up w/ 100% argon even though it could have been a 75 25 mix?

what are you welding with?dual, inner, outershield? and, what material are you welding?

to me, it seems like the mixed gas would still have trace amounts in the bottle. but it shouldn't ---- up your welds...whats the worst that could happen? you'd have to grind or carbon arc them out.

So I need a tank that has only ever had 100% argon in it, otherwise there would be traces of another gas that would cause contamination of the weld?

that is all true. along with the ****. but if you are welding mild steel then having a mix would be fine. if you plan to weld stainless or aluminum then worry about being 100%
