Default turbo kit question?

I am putting togeter a turbo kit on my 95 Civic EX D16Z6 engine. I talked to a local Honda mechanic who I know and he said that it would be better to just buy a new full turbo kit for my car insted of piecing one together. The thing is I only have so much money to use and I found everything I would need, and most of the parts are new, for less then the full new kit. I was wondering if piecing one together works as good the new kit would and if it is as easy to put on because he said I may have trouble getting things to fit. Please let me know. Thanks.

Of course you will have more trouble piecing one together as everything is not going to be cut precisely, but like you said, it is much cheaper to go HMT. Plus, you get the satisfaction of knowing you put it together and it is unique. I personally don't want a cookie cutter turbo system that I paid an extra $1000 for (or more) when I can make my own and learn what works and what doesn't. I can also claim NO RICE! NO HK$! NO GRE(E)DY! phew

even if you bought everything brand new piece buy piece it will still be cheaper than a kit plus you can mix match brands and get better parts than a kit offer, custom made intercooler, manifold, downpipe,piping/couplers, management. and comes out better than most kits out there, and plus you are paying for some company's names. BUILD YOUR OWN KIT!!!!

dude its really up to you. If you have the money go buy the prefab turbo kit. If your on a budget like most of us here on hmt we piece together our own kit. You actually learn more by doing it yourself. I personally like the diy route better. You get to pick your parts, save money, and have the bragging right that you did do it on your own.
