I put a 98 y8 tranny in my 94 DX yesterday. The swap wasn't that bad except for ripping apart one of the castle nuts on my left ball joint... Anyway, took it for a rip last night and my speedo isn't working and I have a cel from it. I hooked up all the sensors, but the VSS on the new tranny looks different from the one on my DX. The Y8 one is taller and what not. Maybe I can post some pics later, but anyway. If anyone has done put a Y8 tranny in their 5th gen DX I would like to hear if you had this problem, I would also love thoughts on what people think it could be. I think I might just get a whole new sensor . I am going to the junkyard today.

the y8 is obd2, and the z6 or whatever s20 is obd1, maybe thats why, try using the vss from your old tranny.

they are bolted on with 2 10mm bolts, or just the sensor part is 2 philips screws. dont much about trannies but just a thought.

Here are some ugly pics, one is the old DX tranny with the old sensor mount thing, the other is the new tranny with the sensor installed on the mount. The mounts look totally different. But the plug fits... Do I need a different plug or something, the speedo still won't work, it's throwing a code about it too.

yeah, maybe you need an OBD1 sensor?

I have an obd2 Y8 tranny in my obd1 car right now and I don't remember having to do anything special except bolt it up.

I have an obd2 tranny on my obd2 car, so i was just speculating. maybe the vss on the y8 tranny is fucked?

The sensor is straight off my DX obd1 tranny, the only thing different is the way different mount the sensor sits on. Thats what the crappy pictures were trying to illustrate. 3 Days without speedo and counting...
