ok, so i am using a torrent for the first time and this seems quite slow IMO.

i am using bitcomet.

I am currently dl'ing saw 4 @ 52 kb/s

its been 15 min and ive only dl'd 50mb


ive got Comcast Cable Internet and hooked up directly to the modem.

my laptop has a Pentium Dual Core 2060 (1.6 ghz) running Vista (stripped down to the minimum, ie no widgets or gadgets or whatever the ---- they are called) and 1.5 gb of ram.

basically, i think i have a pretty decent PC and internet connection and for some reason, dl'ing just seems slow.




what do some of you guru's think?

make sure your using a port above 50000 and switch ports once in a while. and for gods sake dont call your isp and whine to them about your torrent problems

Oh plus sometimes trackers go down.. Not to mention if your ratio is shitty some users can opt to give you a lower priority download.

it also depends on how many seeders they are...the more seeders the faster you can download..
wikki has a good right up about it...

ditch everything and go with utorrent grab an older version off of oldversion.com, they seem to be more stable

BTW, sometimes it drops to like 10ish, and the best ive had was 500+. It all depends on your seeders.

well, i dropped bitcomet and got bittorrent before i saw the most recent posts.


started off well and then it just ---- the bed. was at over 200 kb/s then dropped to zero and stalled.

so i stopped and rebooted my pc, and i have been hanging out at 40-90ish kb/s now with ~15 seeds

how many seeds are considered good?

what do you mean by only use a port above 50000? do i select that in the program or in my router settings?

as for calling my ISP, ahahahaha, im not some stupid ----, i know better than that. :1

could someone share some uncontrollable knowledgeabilities with me on torrents? is it a p2p network or something? i understand its to download at least programs and movies from just reading about them on here and google but since i only have the net on my phone i cant download it or try it.

Mime-type: application/x-bittorrent .torrent files are basically BitTorrent's equivalent to ed2k links used in eDonkey network. In essence, .torrent files include instructions for BitTorrent -compatible P2P clients where to find the "tracker" for the downloaded file, hashed checksum that verifies for the client that it is actually downloading the correct file, the full size of the file and the filename of the file. ok, so its dl'ing at an average of 135kb/s right now, so thats better.

is it normal for it to take 2 hours to dl a 600 mb file?

i am using http://thepiratebay.org/ to find the torrents. is there others that may be more popular that may have more seeds?
