for some reason i always assumed the bigger the screen the easier it would be to get kills because the target would be larger. :P

if thats not the case i might have to stray from the idea of projectors, it seems overly complicated to get a good working setup. maybe a 73" dlp for 2K is the way to go.

Put your face close to a monitor and try to play :P

When you have to move your eyes/head to see other parts of the screen, it's going to slow down your killing. Only benefit I can see is that small, distant objects would be easier to aim at, but the whole "not being able to see everything at once" thing will negate that.

To me that sounds like a problem of trying to have the biggest damn impressive projector screen possible... I'd still go for the projector just keep the size within reason.

its not complicated (less you go DIY). i only dont want to advise you to go spend a grand and a half on a good projector & remodeling; not understanding the up and downsides of it. (why i advocate buying whatever very used $250-300 projector comes up on ebay in the next week that will do 1280*1024)

projection tv's suck.

fps games on projectors suck. sure, the guy off in the distance is PLENTY large enough to see. the problem is your eyes can't scan the entire image quickly enough to see him if he's much out of center. once you start talking 80" screens (just throwing out a "minimum non------ front projector number") you run into the problem of not being able to sit back far enough to quickly scan the picture, while still being able to see the fine detail in the picture.

viewing distance, screen formate, movie distance / gaming distance
42" 16:9 = 5/7'
52" 16:9 = 6/8'
62" 16:9 = 7/10'
80" 16:9 = 9/12.5'
80" 4 = 8/11.5'
90" 16:9 = 10/14
90" 4 = 9/13'
100" 4 = 10/14.5'
100" 16:9 = 11/16'
110" 4 = 11.5/16'
110" 16:9 = 12.5/17.5'

assume the 4 would be playing a projector on 1280*1024 and 16:9 being 720p/1080p. while awesome for movies and any game not being a fps. you just can't typically sit back far enough to play a FPS well. Even when you can - trust me you will MISS the contrast, brightness & coloration you get from projectors VS a different screen.

the cousin i keep giving in examples. he has his old biz projector. he can't do ---- on it in COD W@W or UT3. couple of kills, lots of deaths. >100" image sitting 5-6 feet away. you cant SEE anything. he turns that off and fires up his 42" samsung LCD TV. he can actually go 1:1+ pretty much every match. ncaa football, sega rally, nascar - all go on the projector. shooters, action games - right back to the samsung.

What he said. when he says put your face against the screen. really... try to play with your face 12" from a screen. That's what playing on a projector is like.

First off the pics are from my crappy phone and do no justice to what they are showing....

I have had pretty bad *** HT set-ups for the last 15 years. I would suggest leasing one from Dell if you qualify. Super low payment and most HDMI enabled DLP projectors these days throw a great image. I have had CRT and dlp projectors over the years and dlp has come a long way. cheap and super easy to set-up. Most are also small so you can take with to friends places to play games on there. Although some people get good results with makng their own projector.....when an off the shelf good projector can be had for less than $800 my feeling is that it is a cheap "wheel" why spend alot of time and effort trying to "re-invent another wheel" and only save a few hundred $.

The best screen option for a fixed (non roll-up) screen is using a piece of Wilsonart "designer white" laminate. Cheap and easy to clean and gives a great picture. I have a piece that was 5' x 12' and cost about $100 canadian from a local distributer - probably cheaper in the states. It is cut to roughly 5' x 9' which is 16:9 and contact cemented straight to the wall.

My current set-up uses mostly commercial grade amplifiers, power conditioners and cables. They are typically way cheaper than high end home audio gear and far more capable. Check out ebay for that stuff. If you go with a processor and seperate amps you can upgrade to a better processor more often and keep the budget down by re-using amps. I am currently running a 300w rms x 6 amp to power l,r,c,rr,rl and a 900w rms 70lb monster to power my 2 15" subs. To say it will shake the house is a serious understatement. All gear is rack mounted in the wall for a clean pro look.

most of the time i dont undertsand the DIY projectors either. too many people spending >$800 on making a 1080p projector that while it'll beat the refresh and contrast of the $1200 and under 1080p projectors. Can't touch the brightness.
imho DIY projectors should be cheap, better refresh, sharpness, resolution contrast & coloration than you can get for near that price range on a used projector on ebay. along with being way less expencive to operate.

One day Id like to get a nice 9" CRT projector. Guy installed one in a house we built afew years ago. Contrast on it was crazy.
