I have a 1988 Honda Civic Dx Hatchback, completely stock, what would I need to do in order to get one of those tachs from autozone or checker to work in my car?

the wiring for a tach is already there behind your gauge cluster. i just spliced into the appropriate wire. i have a mini tach that i mounted up in my gauge bezel. i hate monster tach's top of the dash.

the wiring is already in the gauge cluster plug, if you were looking at the front of the cluster it would be the plug on the back left its a blue wire i think like 3 or 4 from the left. splice into that and use that as your tach wire the red and white are power and light and the black would be the ground. you can also use the wire straight out of the dizzy the blue wire of the double wire plug (the round one, this wire is more accurate for the tachometer because its the direct feed of the ignition source, but at the same time not much of a difference and the dizzy way is hella more easy to ---- up). hope this helps.

that's the wire. if you're not sure or to double check get a voltmeter and check the wire. it's voltage will increase as rpm's increase. it's too easy to hit it off the back of the cluster...plus you don't have to deal with running extra wires through the firewall.

thanks alot, you guys kick ***. I am thinking about getting a 3 3/8 tach from autozone for 46 bucks, the monster is 200, and the 2 3/8 was 36, but it is too small for my bad eyes. My first move will be to move the battery to the hatch, after that I'll get a tach. thanks for your help.

wouldnt you want the weight in the front for traction since im guessing your putting a turbo on it?

I want to battery out of the way for piping and ----.

I didn't stick to my plan, the tach is in and the battery is still in the front.

I was wondering if I've been driving like a ----- forever or my tach my be reading wrong. I have the power attached to a plug labeled 3 in the fuse area, the ground is hooked up to a round wire and bolt under the dash on the driver's side, the tach sensor thing is hooked up to the blue wire from the gauge cluster. I'm really paranoid and don't want to blow my engine because the tach is reading too low, so could any of this cause it to read low?

No it should read perfect, if you have it hooked to the right wire. And that is the right wire. Make sure you have the Tach set on 4 cyl. And if you dont trust that wire you can also go right off of the distributer. But if everything is hooked up right the RPM's are right
