handle power through turns who hops on a bike for the first time and goes around dragging his knee while romping on the throttle? they'll crash any bike they get on.

someone could buy a turbo hayabusa and never touch the throttle and it would be just like riding a heavy bike with no power.


here is a heads up, if you havent ridden before, don't twist your wrist all the way back

BTW I've seen more experienced riders on smaller bikes at the track (Not the drag strip) lay waste to newer 600's. Seeing a lil 500 rip around a corner leaving a newer 600 in the dust is a sight to see..... granted the newer 600 sorta caught up in the straight... followed by early/scared breaking and the 500 pulling away even more. Food for thought... and think about it this way... get a cheaper bike now, and good gear. Then next season if you feel necessary get a bigger bike.
first at a track day thats all rider, if a rider on a 500 out rides a guy on a 600, the guy has some skills, secondly if you get anything under a 600 your waisting your money...i learned on a cbr 600rr(which was my buddies) then when i bought my own bike i had a 600f2...its not hard to ride a 600, its all about knowing your limits and not pushing yourself to an extreme were you'll kill yourself....like johny said, you could ride a turbo busa and not hit the power band and it would be practicly like riding a 600....and if any noob goes out and thinks he's gonna drag knee on any kind of bike then he's gonna go down with in the first couple weeks and probably kill himself....i ride with a lot of experienced riders that hit up track days and they rarely drag knee on the streets cause of how easy it can be to hit a oil slick.....this is what i say, get a bike you'll be happy with for a lot longer period of time, and invest in some awesome gear and remember this theres only two kinds of riders, those that have gone down and those that will

if you have a speeding problem/ think you might get hurt on a 600, ill tell ya right now u can get hurt bad and speed on a 250 so might as wel get a 600.

ive gotten hurt pretty bad on a 50cc dirt bike and moped

my 1st "real" bike was a cbr600 F3, there great bikes and u can find em cheap

My first bike was a 1983 KZ 550 ltd. A nice comfy cruiser. Inline 4. Still fast enough to get you into trouble but easy to learn on. Plus when you drop it you won't really care! I ran that bike through the Jersey Pine barrens once. Still have the cooling fins branded into my left leg, lol. 450 lbs bike in the sand at night was a bad idea. Extremely entertaining though!

My suggestion.

Buy a 80's bike. 500-650 cc's. I like I-4's because they have more of a top end. Twins are torquey.
Learn on the 80's bike. If the bike is still in one piece after you are confident at riding, then sell it.
Then buy something bigger.
If you wrecked the ---- outta your "learner" bike. Buy another 80's bike to practice on.
No sense in buying a new gsx-r or ninja just to drop it and ---- it up.
Ride all of your friends bikes to find out what style suits you. I would suggest learning how to ride first.

My bike right now is a 83 GPZ 550. Ton's of fun. I love old school bikes. Still not bored with it. Runs a mid twelve in the quarter. top speed of about 135 or something. Speedo only goes to 85 mph, lol.

Whatever you get I HIGHLY suggest taking the MSF course. I know in IL its 20 bucks.. which is refundable or you can donate it. You learn (or for many dirtbike riders relearn) some valuable skills there and it should give you a discount on insurance.

Best advice in this thread.

Also, check out the Kawasaki EX500, Suzuki GS500, or even the Suzuki SV650. All good bikes for beginners. A side note about these bikes: after you get some experience under your belt, these bikes are easy to re-sell and you can usually get close to what you paid for provided you don't have any whoopsies.

Aye, laddie! Those things are slow as hell, and would make a good learners bike, but perk up nicely with a shot of nitrous to keep you from getting too bored with it.

Serious riders build 180 whp Hayabusas with 250 shot progressive systems.

I have my first bike right now which is a intruder vs800, its a vtwin bike and I really like the low end trq. I just put a corbin gunfighter seat on it and it feels great. They are also pretty lightweight and is quick enough for me right now. I had thought about getting a sport bike but I don't know if I'd like the seating position on them. If I do get a sport bike next it will probually be either a buell or a triumph.
