Ask about the turbo balancing, Jeff. Cole's T70 is still running great, but Wes' started smoking Thursday night. It has ~6000 miles on it, maybe more.

I'm thinking it might be an oil pressure problem - Wes' B17 head came off a fucked up sludge filled rod through the block engine, and won't engage VTEC if oil presure drops below 65-70 psi. The turbo does not pass oil at 35 psi oil pressure at idle, but does between shifts. There is a restrictor inline, but given the oil pressures who knows what final pressure the bearings see. So don't anybody jump to conclusions, might just be user error.

Also, replacement diaphragms for the wastegates since they seem to be somewhat prone to tearing.

FYI, the last time I bought a SSAC wastegate they tried to jack me for $25 shipping from two hours away. I don't mind paying shipping cost and a modest packaging and handling fee, but I though it was a bit much. I sent a nicely worded note with my Paypal payment and they shipped it for free. I would have been tickled if they halved it.

I think old boy has made 1.9 million dollars with some hit or miss stuff, and now is trying to put out a better product. Mazda RX7 was always hit or miss reliable, and they never tried to put out a better quality product. Look at the LS1 with all those broken pushrods, split blocks, etc. yet everyone jocks it. If Mister SSAC wants to clean things up on his end I have nothing but respect.

I'm running the SSAC 38mm wastegate now for about 10K miles or more. It regulates boost fine, but it seems that sometims it doesnt open up at teh right moment. I have my low boost setting at 8psi and it sometimes jumps to about 10 and goes down, and fluctuates ~.5 psi in either direction, but as long as it doesnt creep past 12 I'm good to go. When I have it set for 12 psi, it does fine. Maybe its just low bosst that's the problem??

Minor boost fluctuations of 1-2 psi are normal. As good as OEM.

The minor spiking might be a sign of a little sticky-ness in the travel of the wastegate valve. Remove the spring and try to slide it by hand, see if it catches or binds under lateral loads or something. Might also be some other problem with the dynamics of your system, I'd just try to rule out the wastegate first then work from there.

Didn't that guy on HT that had the compressor housing split say that he bought the whole kit - not just the turbo?

I'm sure that i've seen SSauto selling those dodgy looking turbos in kits before..

Also, let me just say that i'm not your normal SSAC hater - I have one of their wastegates and i'm fully prepared to buy one of their turbos and various other stuff if this test turns out good.

Flame me if i'm wrong

I say ---- the ----------er. For years he's been nothing but a scumbag, selling bullshit that he knew was worthless. Now that he's got everyones money, he's ready to invest some of his bullshit profits into trying to make a legitimate business? hahaha, ---- him.

I don't care who's **** he sucks, or how good his bullshit products get to be, or how low of a pricetag they carry. At the end of the day, he won't be taking his family on vacations with my money.

Pile of *****, don't wake up one day and become model citizens, they wake up and figure out a new way to get your money. ---- em.
