Well heres the scoop... An HMT member referred a local friend to us for some turbo parts. So he bought those off us with little conversation and went his own way. A day later he called and asked if i would install it for him, i said sure, and proceeded to ask him what parts he already had. He wasnt exactly sure what was what, so he brought it by and sure enough it was a good ole ss mani / Wg combo w/ an xs power turbo. Upon seeing this i really didnt even want to do the install, but he was desperate for boost and realized the possible consequences, so we took on the job. Everything was brand new, he picked up an intercooler from us, charge pipes, blow off valve, couplers and clamps and we also redid a partial downpipe he had. Well, After several hours of work and staring at the finished product, I proceeded to fire it up. Everything sounded normal, no smoke or problems really. I tell him to give it a spin and see what he thinks, He comes back with a big frown," its not boosting man". So i double check everything, adjust the mbc to make sure we have some boost, and tell him to give it another shot, Well he starts it again and proceeds to back up, i see a nice little cloud of black smoke shoot out right where the wastegate was pointing (luckily it was day time). Have him pull the car back in, start inspecing the Wastegate, Damn Valve was broken inside, worthless i tell you. Now hes stuck purchasing a good wastegate like he should have to begin with.

he shouldnt feel so bad, my very first turbo setup lasted 1 week, compressor nut came off and got sucked in to the compressor, sheared the shaft in to 2 pieces.

I have lived this same problem, over and over and over again. Kids come in with all this brand new China made crap. You install it and then it goes bad. They want to blame you, they even lie about where they got it. "No its not SS auto chrome, I swear". Later you find out its all off Ebay. China is going to kill this industry. They are going to keep driving the prices down selling cheap junk so good quality manufacturers cant stay in the game. The new kds are all going to get a bad tast for turboing there cars dealing with all this crap and small shops will top doing installs because of the combacks and problems.

All we can do is when we have a problem post it and hope people start lookin at the facts. Besides that all these crap companies have been in the game since I was just starting to drive 8 or so years ago. OBX aka ssautocrap has been sellin garbage for years but they dont have respect and have a horrible name. Really just comes down to the dumb young kid jumpin on the bandwagon and not doin research. I have turned away a # of people wantin installs with this crap 2 obx shiny turd intake manifolds in the last couple months. One kid came back about 2 weeks later the flange was warped and had me install a factory manifold ported by me so it all works out in the long run I hope.
