my old Maxima club had a meet today for opening day at MIR....even better my buddy finally got a two year long project I'd been helping him with done and ready this past week. its 1999 Nissan Maxima 5spd VQ30DE turbo with VQ30DET pistons and stock rods(CR is about 9:1 or so), TO4B, Greddy Emanagae 550cc inj and Z32 MAF. the past week it has hit 14-16lbs clean and consistent. the other night we tried for 18lbs and got some minor detonation so we stopped there, but still very impressive....today he started with 12lbs, but unfortunately the cltuch went out and then on the second "attmept" the tranny blew out 3rd gear. but that just means back to the drawing board I guess. we've put a lot of work into the car so I'm really hoping to get it back up and running soon and back to the track.

(we swapped the motor and setup last summer from his old wrecked maxima(which was auto) into this almost identical 99SE 5spd)


TODAY:





some REAL highlights from the group though...

another local turbo Maxima...stock block, 30 shot wet, alky in, JWT ECU, w/ Emanage, 720ccrs...16lbs..ran 11.5s!!! Car is scary fast and 100% street driven


a 6spd 3.5L 5.5 gen Maxima...ran 13.6 on street tires n/a with regular bolt-ons


and probably the show stopper...a 4th gen Maxima with a 3.5L motor swap, but 5spd...ran 14 flats with just headers and exhaust...some of you PA guys probably know him or have seen the car around town or his shop.




and of course some fried chicken to finish off the day... yes the stereotypes are true!!!

today was "run what you brung" or "tags" day...ie no full race cars, only registered street cars. most of the faster imports were in the 11s and 12s, including that maxima and turbo G3 Integra running 11.80s. as for the domestics, there were only one or two breaking high 9s, while on a usual night at Capitol, a lot are well into the mid 9-8s...but overall a great day(minus our tranny issue on the red car ).

accordepicenter: the oil in the compressor was due to the original oil return design...it was kinda ghetto and used a slanted hard pipe and a hose...but since the swap its been redone to a nice full SS line at a decent angle.

Speedracer32: my buddy is always around that area, when its back on the road after this tranny work you'll probably see us around.

nice you got faaaassst cars out there... around here if an import breaks into the 12s its hot ----, but the domestics really arent that must faster (full race cars run into the 10s and maybe 9s) but street cars, 12s usually

Thats not a bad thing. Depending on where he has the PCV hooked up it can be perfectly normal. I've always had some oil in my charge pipes.
