Default So i drove an SRT-4 last night.

Ok well first off i was not impressed. This ting rode like crap and it didnt seem to have much go. The boost guage was reading 14 psi and it felt like is was only pulling on 5psi. The one good thing was the seats were kick ***. Has anyone else driven one? was it weak on power? The one i drove was a skip barber racing school car. I know the beat on them alot however it only had 15,xxx miles on it. So it shouldnt be tired and weak yet should it? It handled pretty well just seem to have no go power is all? Im wondering if they are all like that or did i just drive one thats junk? The red on it was kinda crappy looking. The interior was ok i guess. The guages and ---- wer nice looking. The shift patern was tight but had a long throw i thought. So anyone else have inpt on this situation? I am just kind of curious is all.

Thats what i was thinking. My friends civic hatch is only running 12psi and it was pulling way harder than that srt did. I was so not impressed. Thats why i was asking about it. i guess i just expected more from the srt was all.

Hey hey hey, wait a second there, 99.9 % of the Subaru and Evo owners are 20 year old little clean cut self righteous simple minded fools who couldnt understand why or how that boost gauge moves

There comes a point in life when you want something nicer and bigger. but you are right most kids buy the SRT-4s WRXs STIs and EVOs because they are turbo, they don't know anything else. Thay have no clue what makes the car go or faster, but they will bet their *** their car is fast because it is turbo.

My WRX was done right, but on the budget side. Car runs mid to low 12's but I still have all the comforts of a midsize car. Sure you can build a cheaper faster civic, but like I said, sometimes you want something nicer. Today 12's isn't holly ---- fast, but it is still enough to hang out and also beat a lot of people out there. But in the end I like the car because of me and how it drives, not because I beat this many people. I don't care what other people think.

SRT4's are nice cars, have a lot of potential. My brother-in-law had one, some *** t-boned him and totaled the car, he was running 13.9 stock. Not crazy fast, but with little upgrades, less than $1,000 you can hit 12's. In the end it is still a NEON, but they aren't that bad.

If you are looking for out of your seat, crap you pants fast, you won't find a factory spec 4 cylinder. Come on now, we don't mess around with cars because they are fast to begin with, we work on them to make them faster. It's fun stuff.

amen.

I doubt they'll come fast from the factory because they'll either be unreliable, or will be reliable and expensive, and I think the insurance on a "fast" 4 cylinder would cost a bit much for their target audience.

Also, I like that it helps to weed out the ******* that buy a fast car and think they're great even though they don't know a damn thing about how they work.

Anyways, it's a neon...yuck.

Well as you can see in my sig, or if you are an OG I have a WRX. It ran a 14.9 stock, slow as *****, well 15's was fast about 4 years ago lol....., but like he just posted new cars have to deal with reliability and other issues. I don't know if you paid attention, but the neon will creep to 14 the dial down to 10 or 11 psi. Just changing the wastegate, will give you more constant power. Also my brother in law popped out the wastegate hose, the car ran low 13's boosting about 25psi. held fine. The cars are nice, but they have to keep some requirements from the factory.

Now you can weed out the gay owners when they keep it stock but just add rims and tints, to the ones that say ---- my bumper, they cut it all out and put a massive double sized intercooler in the front, that's one way to see, for the most part, who's serious about the car and who's not.

I think those SRT-4's will become the DSM's of now in the next 10 years. Cheap cars you can make fast easy.

Are you guys kidding me?

You're seriously going to complain about a car that sells for 20k stock and will do low 14's outta the box? I know you guys are going to give me hell for this, but lets put this in perspective shall we? How much was the original msrp on most of your civics and accords? 13k 14k? I don't really know, but paying that much for a car that will go 16-17 seconds stock in the quarter mile doesn't exactly rev my engine. Now take the SRT- Yes the car that surrounds it is still an econobox just like a civic, but comes factory with a limited slip (after 03 anyway) comes with very supportive seats factory, factory boost gauge, and let's not forget, factory 2.4l turbocharged motor.

I don't know about you guys, but for the money, this car is a serious contender. I also don't know if you realize this, but that SRT block can take a hell of a pounding without changing internals. There are several guys right now who are making 450whp on the stock block. It's called potential people, and it's the same reason you build your civics, because there's cheap potential in them.

I agree with the comment that they'll be the new DSM in a few years. They'll be fairly cheap to pickup and you can make them wicked fast for a limited amount.

Don't bash on cars just because it's a "neon" or a domestic. If a car has the right pedigree, give it credit.

So many brand loyal idiots out there that think all other cars suck, they miss out on a lot of good vehicles, one thing you have to understand is that almost every car company gets it right sooner or later. except maybe kia

Yes that's what I was saying......I will definately pick one up as a fun car later on when they sell for $4-$5k....which should be about 2 more years....lol....

but seriously, the only way you will get a fast 11-low 12 second factory car, you need to spend over 50k, maybe more. You can buy an SRT4 use mopar parts and keep your 7 year warranty on an car that has over 350hp and runs high to mid 12's.

Sure for some us us here, $20k, hell even $5k spent on a car is too much. But that doesn't mean the car is crap.
