Default slick problem at the track

Well i have a pair of slicks that were new mounted on some ghetto rims. I put air in them and drove to the track and put them on. I lowered the tire pressure to about 12psi on each tire and made a pass. at the end of the pass i was making my turn and the tire fell off the rim. I took the tire to my local tire shop and they would not put air in to see if there was a leak or anything they sent me packing. if you look at the tire on the inside it is all folded under i cannot get the thing to hold air.

Is this slick still good? do i just need to try a different tire shop?

are they wrinkle walls? you need to get locking scwrews to hold them in place. I've seen a writeup on how to make your own, but summit sells them also.

Until you are spinning the slick on the rim, you do not want tubes. They actually hurt traction, and make the car more unstable at speed.

Mickey has a nice tech article on the subject.

typical noobie on slicks, car is no longer a gokart.

You can try to reseat the bead, try 14-15 psi.

Also how low is your car? The camber is gonna kill the inside of the slicks RREALLY quick!

I had my first taste of slicks last weekend, it was so fun I fried my clutch doing burnouts, I was using road racing slicks, I remember someone saying they are shitty, they felt great to me, those things hook and go until the clutch slips, but I loved them.

Is that a slice in the bead, or is just the photo?

LOL have no idea dave. I do not have bread in my garage tho. My car is not that low. it is a standard 1.5inch drop. I am a noob with slicks. That was my 1st time ever using them. I may try the rebeading trick. i tried to use a long screwdriver and pop the inerside of the tire back out but it would not stay.

Do the slicks require a tube, some do, some don't.

And yes, on drag racing slicks, your no longer a go kart!! Take you corners slow!!!

Your gonna have to get the bead reseated before trying to add air.

Old school, yet dangerous/fun, starter fluid inside the tire and toss a match at the tire.

Saw it on TV when they run low tire pressure (3-4 psi) on the artic ice.

Rock crawlers do it also.
